Bills forced to bring in an emergency reinforcement after losing player in unexpected fashion ahead of Week 17 vs Eagles
Some changes are coming to One Bills Drive.
The Buffalo Bills are once again forced to shake up their roster ahead of the Week 17 showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles.
For the second time this week, one of the Bills’ practice squad players has been picked up by another team. Quarterback Shane Buechele was sniped by the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in the week, bringing back a familiar face to Kansas City but leaving Buffalo without a third-string quarterback.
Bills lose practice squad depth ahead of Week 17
On Wednesday, news broke that the Cleveland Browns were taking offensive lineman Kendrick Green from the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad. The practice squad rules dictate that a player can be taken off another team’s practice squad at any point in the season, but must be signed to that team’s 53-man roster.
While it might not seem like an earth-shattering move, Green was an important depth piece for Buffalo that has been battling through injuries on both sides of the football all season.
Green signed with Buffalo in the offseason and joined the team’s practice squad after being cut in August. He didn’t appear in a single game for Buffalo all season.
Green was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021 and started 15 games at center before being moved to guard in 2022. He was then traded to the Texans in 2023, where he appeared in 21 games and made four starts over his two seasons with the team.
Bills bring in emergency reinforcement to PS
Buffalo wasted no time bringing in a reinforcement as shortly after the Green news broke, the team signed offensive lineman Richard Gouraige to the practice squad, replacing Green.
It’s another reminder of how quickly things can change late in the season, even away from the spotlight. Buffalo adjusts once again and turns its focus to Philadelphia, hoping this latest shuffle is the last piece of business before kickoff, though we know that probably won’t be the case.
