Bills shock fans by cutting “Hard Knocks” standout and fan favorite in unexpected round of roster moves
A fan-favorite in linebacker Jimmy Ciarlo says goodbye, for now.
The Buffalo Bills, coming off the loss to the Atlanta Falcons, waived linebacker Jimmy Ciarlo. Ciarlo was a fan-favorite ever since appearing on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” and it wasn’t hard to see why. Only appearing in 13 special teams snaps, his legend was much bigger than just that.
The country fell in love with the linebacker, who lived out of a hotel room with only a handful of clothes and being at the facilities day and night. He was cut as part of roster cutdown days, but then added to the team’s practice squad before ultimately climbing his way up to the active roster.
Ciarlo was a class act
Ciarlo has been vocal about his appreciation for the Bills organization, and the same hard-working sentiment was said even after he joined the active roster.
The coaching staff gushed over Ciarlo’s love for the game and his desire to continue to learn. Head coach Sean McDermott loves students of the game. He even stunned a Bills legend in Steve Tasker, after sharing his pregame routine from his days at Army, when he and his teammates would watch Tasker’s old highlights.
In a corresponding move, the team released cornerback Jalen Kimber from the practice squad. The Bills Mafia was quick to point out the nature of the moves after a brutal loss.
Some fans were expecting perhaps a bigger move to be made, but it doesn’t mean that a move can’t be coming down the trade deadline, or even from the available free agents.
Ciarlo could return to Buffalo’s practice squad if he clears waivers. The team has shown a consistent desire to bring him back. If he were unable to return to Buffalo, his effort and attitude with a few reps under his belt could earn him another shot somewhere else in the league.
