Former Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy is on board with a controversial opinion about New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
Former Bills head coach Rex Ryan went viral this week for his recent comments about Belichick and "The Patriot way".
"This team plays like they’re exhausted,” said Ryan on Get Up. “And the Patriot Way, that’s it, it exhausts these kids. Tom Brady was the only reason you won anyway, alright? I’m just telling you the difference…I said they would never win again when that guy trotted down to Tampa — because I know how draining it is to those kids….Bill Belichick, greatest in history, I will never dispute that, OK? I had my ass kicked by him a million times. But if you think for a minute that it wasn’t about Tom Brady, you’re absolutely crazy.”
ESPN put a graphic of Ryan's comments on Instagram, which featured the line "Tom Brady was the only reason you won anyway".
McCoy commented "for sure" on the post.
It's hard to argue against Ryan's take, or blame McCoy for agreeing with it. Belichick has coached one playoff game in the four seasons since Brady left (counting this season, since the 2-9 Patriots won't be heading to the playoffs). And ironically, that playoff game was a loss to the Bills (2021 playoffs).
Maybe it's time for Belichick to save face and retire. Otherwise, he risks further tarnishing his legacy.
