Bills forced to face frustrating reality that was entirely out of their control despite win over the Jaguars
Not the news the Bills Mafia was hoping to hear.
The Buffalo Bills will take on the Denver Broncos in the second round of the NFL playoffs. After taking care of business in Jacksonville, Buffalo is looking forward to its next game.
Thus far, the NFL postseason has been a dream for NFL fans. Nearly every game has come down to the wire, which doesn’t help those suffering from anxiety. Personally, sometimes it can be an outright struggle with some of the close contests. Nevertheless, Buffalo walked away with the victory.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t all good news coming out of One Bills Drive after the victory. After the Los Angeles Chargers beat the New England Patriots, it destroyed the chances of Buffalo hosting a home playoff game. There was a glimmer of hope that the Chargers could upset the Patriots, and then upset the Broncos, which would have set up an AFC Championship game in Buffalo against the Bills if Buffalo took care of business against its next opponent.
It’s official, the last game inside Highmark Stadium has been played.
Goodbye, Highmark Stadium
Fans were hoping that the dominant victory over the Jets in Week 18, red helmets and all, would not be the last time that they saw their beloved team play inside the stadium. While the highs of the victory are still present, it’s a crushing blow for the hopes and dreams of the Bills Mafia.
The stadium, formerly known as Rich Stadium (1973-1998), Ralph Wilson Stadium (1999-2015), New Era Field (2016-2019), Bills Stadium (2020-2020), and now Highmark (2021-2025), has been home to over 430 games dating back to 1973.
No matter what it was called, the stadium on Abbott Road was never just concrete and steel; it was memories, heartbreak, triumph, and identity. While the Bills’ Super Bowl chase continues in Denver, a chapter of Buffalo football has quietly closed for good.
