Bills get a gift from the football gods for upcoming playoff matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars
The Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars are set to face off in the first week of the NFL playoffs.
The Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars are set for action in the first round of the NFL playoffs. During halftime of the Baltimore Ravens-Pittsburgh Steelers matchup, the full slate of games for the upcoming playoffs was released.
The football gods are smiling down on Buffalo and gave the team and fans a big gift with the scheduling of the contest. The game is slated for 1 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Jan. 11.
What makes that so impactful? Well, first and foremost, the team and the fans don’t have to wait around all weekend to watch or play some exciting football. Moreso than that, the team is 8-1 on Sunday at 1 p.m. during the 2025 season. The only loss Buffalo had was in Florida against the Miami Dolphins.
Don’t get me wrong, a primetime window for a Buffalo game would be a lot of fun, but the stress and anxiety of waiting all day for football is enough to drive the fanbase crazy. A couple of games to get through on Saturday, and then the Bills are in the early slot for Sunday.
Bills vs. Jacksonville in round one of the playoffs
The Jaguars are the hottest team in football right now and are just the 10th team in NFL history to win nine or more games compared to the previous season. From 4-13 to 13-4, it’s been an impressive run for Jacksonville. They have a stout defense that’ll put quarterback Josh Allen to the test.
Maybe more specifically, they have a dominant run defense that will make life difficult for running back James Cook, who won the NFL rushing title. With Baltimore falling flat in the closing moments, giving the Pittsburgh Steelers their own playoff berth, Derrick Henry didn’t come close to the Bills’ offensive star.
One area Buffalo can really attack against the Jaguars is passing to tight ends. They’ve allowed the seventh most yards to tight ends and are 19th in the NFL at covering that position specifically by DVOA. It’ll be interesting to see what offensive coordinator Joe Brady has up his sleeve.
The Jaguars are dangerous and deserving of respect, but Sunday at 1 p.m. has been Buffalo’s comfort zone all year, and now the Bills get a chance to prove that timing, momentum, and preparation can matter just as much as talent when the playoffs begin.
