The first episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks has come and gone. While fans were speculating if there would be any drama surrounding the team, they lucked out with the first episode, as it was all smooth sailing.

Well, sort of smooth sailing. There were some snakes and some drifting that had the fanbase just a tiny bit concerned. Luckily, AJ Epenesa didn’t bring the massive snake to practice, though we’re sure he’d be more than happy to have it with him.

Outside of the usual suspects and Josh Allen’s viral comment about Bills Mafia, one of the biggest moments in the entire production was that of K.J. Hamler and his hilariously undersized scooter. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check it out below.

It was clear once it got into frame that the scooter was designed for a small child, not an NFL WR like Hamler. His little-engine-that-could-type scooter had me on the floor laughing. Pair that with the impeccable music and Spencer Brown being his Spencer Brown self, and it was perfect.

Hamler was brought to Buffalo in hopes of revitalizing his career and signed a one-year reserve/future contract in January of 2025. While appearing in all three of the team’s preseason games last year, he was released and signed to the Bills’ practice squad, where he stayed during the duration of the regular season. With current injuries to the WR, he’ll have plenty of opportunities if he can remain healthy throughout the preseason.

Now, less than 12 hours after the episode aired, the Bills Mafia got an inside look at what went down, and it’s even funnier hearing it from Hamler himself. Matthew Bove spoke with Hamler after practice and shared the video via X.

Hamler answered the question on everyone’s mind, what was going on with that scooter, “I ain’t going to lie. So behind the scooter, I went to Target and seen $100 and electric and got the jawn. I thought that thing could fold open, and I thought it was going to be a great little scooter.

“Is it a kid’s scooter?” With a smile, Hamler admitted, “It’s a kid scooter.”

When asked if it’s doing what he needs it to, the veteran WR had a hilarious response, “Nah, it dies going up the hill, so I gotta push it up the hill and stuff like that. I kinda take a break from it and just walk around. I thought it would get me from A to B. I don’t need a Ferrari to go from A to B, give me a little Honda Civic or something.”

When pressed on why he bought a kid’s scooter, Hamler was nothing but honest. “I mean, I knew what type of scooter, but I wasn’t going to pay $700 for a scooter, just respectfully. So I went to Target, that mug said $100 and some dollars, and it was electric. I thought it could get me from A to B, but I guess there’s a waitlist.”

Outside of the obvious scooter angle, Bove asked maybe the 2nd most important question. What in the world was Hamler doing with a pregnancy pillow in his room? “There was also a part with a pregnancy pillow, where you have a pregnancy pillow in your room, and you said that helps. Can you please give me the logic behind that?” You could hear the smile on Bove simply asking the question.

After offering a “hell yeah. Hamler needed a moment to fully understand what his own logic was behind the pregnancy pillow, another gem of a moment from the WR. “They say that when you have a pillow between your legs when you sleep, your hips stay aligned. If you ain’t slept in the dorm beds…”

Hamler continued, “I sleep on my stomach, so I’m not trying to sink into the bed. I took the initiative to get myself a pregnancy pillow, and that thing does justice, I ain’t going to lie. That’s the best thing ever, I swear. $25 on Amazon gets you right. Get you right

On where he got the idea for the pregnancy pillow, ‘Me, myself, and I. That’s all I got,” Hamler offered with a huge smile on his face.

After this interview alone and what was shown on Hard Knocks, the Bills have found a gem. Here’s hoping he can find a way to carve out a role with the team to give us more moments like this.
