Bills could get a huge boost heading into the quest to upset the Denver Broncos with an incredible team update
A huge update from head coach Sean McDermott just 24 hours after the win.
Victory Monday was filled with a bit of bad news for the Bills Mafia. Wide receiver Gabe Davis is out for the season with a torn ACL, and safety Jordan Poyer is not expected to play on Saturday against the Denver Broncos. A huge blow on both sides of the football.
Fortunately, it wasn’t all bad news coming from head coach Sean McDermott, and he provided an update on something fans have been pounding the table for. Defensive tackle Ed Oliver is coming back, well, sort of. His 21-day practice window has been officially opened, meaning we could see Oliver back on the field as soon as Saturday.
It’s important to temper your expectations, though, as safety Damar Hamlin just had his 21-day practice window opened ahead of the Jaguars game, but was unable to go on Sunday. It could still be another week or two for Oliver’s return.
Josh Allen could be getting back another weapon soon
McDermott also shared that quarterback Josh Allen might be getting one of his weapons back. Wide receiver Curtis Samuel also had his 21-day practice window opened from injured reserve.
With the injury to Davis, the Bills need another body at receiver. Regardless of how he’s played thus far, getting Samuel back and healthy could help this team. Or, he could be a healthy scratch for the remaining games, but anytime Allen can potentially get a weapon back, regardless of caliber, it’s an exciting prospect. Samuel has left much to be desired with his game, but a couple of catches in big moments in the postseason is a quick way to turn things in your favor. Again, temper expectations.
Sean McDermott clears the air on Dalton Kincaid
Buffalo’s head coach also shut down a media narrative after tight end Dalton Kincaid could be seen in a walking boot in an Instagram photo after the game. The photo quickly spread on social media, with fans concerned that one of the team’s star players could be missing some time.
McDermott eased the minds of the fan base, saying it was only precautionary and that Kincaid should be fine this week. He’ll be a name to keep an eye out for with the official injury reports.
It was a mixed bag of news coming out of One Bills Drive. Losing Davis is a brutal blow, but the door cracking open for Samuel and Oliver, combined with Kincaid avoiding anything serious, gives Buffalo at least some optimism heading into the next round.
The Bills won’t rush anyone back, but with Allen under center, even small reinforcements could loom large with the games mattering most.
