Bills Inactive Report: Positive update on defensive star ahead of Week 3 showdown vs. Miami Dolphins
Even before the inactive report released, the Buffalo Bills got some good news.
The Buffalo Bills shared some good news before their official inactive report. Matt Milano avoided the injured reserve designation, which would’ve sidelined the defensive star for at least four weeks.
Milano is ruled out of the contest but has avoided the long-term injury designation after suffering a pectoral injury in the team’s Week 2 win over the New York Jets. The official transaction report from the NFL confirmed it: The team would have had to designate him today if they thought he’d miss the next four weeks.
Once again, Curtis Samuel can’t get on the field, but the team did get some positive news in that Taron Johnson, Cam Lewis, and Shaq Thompson were all cleared to play, giving the defense a huge boost ahead of the matchup.
Buffalo Bills inactive list ahead of Week 3 vs. Dolphins
Samuel has been a healthy scratch in three consecutive weeks. His career in Buffalo has been derailed by injuries, though he has shown flashes, including a touchdown against the Broncos in the wild-card round. After signing the receiver to a three-year, $24 million deal in March of 2024, his inability to stay on the field could spell trouble for his tenure as a Bill.
Expect a heavy dose of Dorian Williams with Milano being out of the contest. The third-year player has flashed throughout camp and in limited reps, with a big opportunity in front of him. Even with Thompson active, the team is going to be creative with its personnel.
On the defense, Jordan Hancock was inactive along with Ja’Marcus Ingram, Oliver, and Landon Jackson. No real surprises outside of Hancock not being able to play. His preseason success has the Bills Mafia ready to see what he can do on game days. Chase Lundt was the final inactive for Buffalo.
Ahead of the contest, Buffalo once again elevated Keonta Jenkins and Zion Logue from the practice squad. The pair had been called up in the team’s Week 2 win against the New York Jets, with Logue earning his first career sack, sharing it with Greg Rousseau.
Josh Allen’s key stats
The NFL released a ‘what to look for’ ahead of Week 3 across the NFL, with Allen’s name popping up throughout. Here’s what the franchise quarterback can potentially accomplish in the upcoming game.
- Allen has a chance to surpass Patrick Mahomes in the record books for the fastest player ever to reach 300 career offensive touchdowns (including the postseason). If Allen can get two total offensive touchdowns in the contest, he’ll best Mahomes by one career game. – NFL.com
- Allen is 7-0 as a starting quarterback in Thursday night games. A win would join Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, and Peyton Manning as the only signal-callers ever to win eight consecutive Thursday starts.
- With three touchdown passes, Allen can tie Kirk Cousins, Dak Prescott, and Russell Wilson as the sixth-fastest quarterback to reach 200 career regular-season touchdown passes.
- With a win, Allen can become the fifth-most winningest quarterback in his first eight seasons, including the postseason, in NFL history.
