Bills Injury Report: The news fans have been dreading comes to fruition just days ahead of pivotal week 15 showdown against the Patriots
Not the best news coming out of One Bills Drive.
The Buffalo Bills were looking healthy heading into the contest against the New England Patriots in Week 15, but that was until the news about cornerback Christian Benford dropped.
Benford suffered a toe injury during practice and could be seen in a walking boot, stoking fears that he wouldn’t be available for the upcoming matchup. Well, that latest injury report doesn’t help the fans’ concerns that he won’t be able to play; he’s been officially listed as questionable.
Benford has been playing at another level
Being down Benford would be a huge blow for the defense. The cornerback has been playing at an All-Pro level, and with the team looking to go into New England and walk out with a win, it’s a potentially devastating blow.
According to SumerSports, Benford has been electric over the past four weeks. He’s allowed the lowest completion percentage allowed (36.4%), the lowest yards per target allowed (4.6), the most passes defended (18), the most interceptions (two), and the only CB to not allow a touchdown.
When looking at advanced metrics, he has a coverage EPA of -13.76 while allowing only four completions on 11 targets over the past four weeks. He’s allowed only 51 yards throughout.
In terms of how he has ranked against his peers over that stretch, he has the third-best coverage EPA in the league, the 13th-best yards per target, tied for first with 0 touchdowns allowed, and tied for first with two interceptions.

Observations
Outside of Benford, the biggest name is that of defensive end Joey Bosa. It looks like he’ll be a full go for the matchup on Sunday. He leads the team with forced fumbles, and his pressure rate at one point of the season was the highest in the NFL. He’s been a one-man wrecking crew on the defensive front, and having him back will go a long way toward the team finding success.
While offensive guard David Edwards played well in Spencer Brown’s absence, getting Brown back will be another big boost for the offense.
Perhaps the most frustrating update is that of wide receiver Josh Palmer. He’s been unable to compete on more than one occasion this season and was brought in to make an impact on offense. Not having all your weapons in a game that feels like a must-win is less than ideal.
Ultimately, the entire injury report pales in comparison to Benford’s status. Buffalo can survive bumps and bruises elsewhere on the roster, but losing an All-Pro-level cornerback in a game of this magnitude would force Buffalo into an interesting position. Whether Benford can push through the toe injury will be one of the most important storylines to monitor.
