It’s been reported that the Buffalo Bills have held a Zoom meeting with ECU wide receiver Anthony Smith shortly after the team attended his pro day. The 6-foot-3 wide receiver caught 64 passes for 1,053 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025.
I’m a huge fan of getting quarterback Josh Allen as many weapons as humanly possible at his disposal, and Smith could add a much-needed spark to the offense. General manager Brandon Beane said that the trade for former Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore won’t stop the team from drafting a wide receiver high in the upcoming NFL Draft.

“Anthony Smith began his career with NC State before becoming a standout performer for ECU over the last two seasons. With a longer frame and good vertical speed, his game is a bit similar to Robbie (Chosen) Anderson. He has longer strides to be able to gain leverage on opposing defensive backs when trying to take the top back. Despite some decent hip fluidity, Smith is very raw as a route runner.
“Smith also needs to add solid weight and strength to his physical profile. As a late rounder or PFA, however, Smith’s ability to create some chunk plays is a very solid investment. There is also some hope that he can contribute on special teams, which could also strengthen his floor as a player. This is a gamble on speed and filling an important role in an offense.” – Ryan Roberts
If Buffalo is serious about maximizing Allen’s prime, these are exactly the types of swings they need to take. Anthony Smith might not be a finished product, but the upside is undeniable. In an offense that thrives on explosive plays, there’s more than enough reason to pay attention, and hopefully, Beane is taking some notes.
