The Buffalo Bills have a superstar on their hands in running back James Cook.

Cook has been a revelation for Buffalo, ascending to one of the very best at his position after inking a massive contract extension during the offseason. Long gone are the comments that the team may have overpaid for the talented running back. Instead, it looks like Buffalo may have gotten a steal.

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor had an off day against the Houston Texans, and Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry came up just short against the Steelers, giving Cook a huge boost without needing to do much in the team’s win over the New York Jets.

Take a bow, James Cook

Heading into Sunday, Cook led the league with 1,606 yards, and Taylor just wasn’t able to catch him in time. Head coach Sean McDermott opened up earlier in the week about his plans for Cook, with the rushing title being so close.

“That’s definitely on my mind,” McDermott offered.

Behind Taylor was Henry, who needed a big day on the ground to pass Cook, but ultimately came up a few yards shy of the mark. If Cook didn’t play a single snap on Sunday, he still would have beaten Henry by 11 yards to earn the title. The Bills running back added some extra padding with his 15 yard performance, but it wasn’t needed.

Cook led the league with nine 100-yard performances; his elite vision and ability to jump-cut any gap have been tremendous to watch throughout the season. When Cook has the ball in his hands, good things happen. Bills Mafia loves to say “Let James Cook” due to the work that he’s able to do in the backfield consistently.

James Cook makes history in Week 18

Just how profound is Cook winning the rushing title, you may ask? The last time that Buffalo had a rusher lead the league was 1976 with O.J. Simpson. Cook earned the title in the final game inside the decorated stadium.

It’s a milestone that underscores just how special Cook’s season was, placing him in rare company in franchise history. For a team built around balance and big moments, Cook didn’t just emerge; he arrived as the NFL’s best, rewriting expectations along the way.
