Bills’ James Cook keeps it short and sweet with powerful postgame comments after his career day against the Carolina Panthers
James Cook is known to be a man of few words. His comments postgame are quickly going viral.
James Cook was cooking in the team’s Week 8 win over the Carolina Panthers.
It was a dominant performance from start to finish for the talented running back. He is the first 200-yard rusher since running back Fred Jackson in the 2009 season against the Indianapolis Colts. With Cook’s two touchdowns, he became only the third Buffalo Bills player all-time to have more than 214 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a game, joining running backs Cookie Gilchrist and O.J. Simpson.
Immediately after the game, Cook spoke with the media. If you are unaware, Cook hardly smiles and is a man of few words; that’s the running joke inside Bills Mafia circles. Cook kept things short and sweet with his responses, offering a powerful message to his offensive line.
“First thing, I want to thank my O-line, without them, I can’t even run,” Cook said. “Just thanking them guys for just always having my back and making lanes for me to run.”
James Cook is a man of few words, even after big wins
Cook is cool, calm, and collected, whether it’s navigating the gaps in the trenches or answering questions postgame. The talented running back was asked about his running style, and we couldn’t possibly agree more. If you haven’t watched Cook’s film, we highly recommend it. He’s one of the most elusive backs in the league, and his patience behind the line is unmatched.
“I would say smooth, just being patient and seeing it and hitting it,” Cook said.
The 200-yard man barely looked like he broke a sweat, finishing the day with only 19 carries for more than 200 yards. He was asked whether it was frustrating, given that it felt like he could have had more opportunities. Cook was quick to shower his teammates with praise, a selfless act from the mild-mannered running back.
“No, because I trust the guys that’s behind me,” Cook said. “We all work together, so you know, just can’t be selfish. You gotta let those guys eat, and when my time comes, I just gotta take advantage of it.”
Cook also offered that he felt like he could go again after barely being hit in the contest. Who knows what another 10 to 12 carries would’ve looked like after the performance that he had on Sunday?
With a Chiefs game up next, Cook was asked about the upcoming matchup, once again leaving reporters with a fantastic response, even if it was only a few words.
“It could be real special. It’s on how we play, like I said,” Cook said. “We are going to get back to work on Monday, get back to attention to details, and work hard.”
For a player who rarely cracks a smile, Cook gave Bills Mafia plenty of reason to grin. If this version of No. 4 shows up against the Chiefs, defenses across the league should be terrified.
