Joe Brady sends a clear message with early Bills staff moves as his long-term vision begins to take shape
Joe Brady has been busy at work at One Bills Drive.
The Buffalo Bills are shaking things up but keeping things the same ever since they announced that former offensive coordinator Joe Brady is the team’s new head coach. A new head coach, a new stadium, and 2026 has the makings to be an all-time classic season.
Before we can get to any real, meaningful football, Brady has to build his staff, and he’s been doing it at a breakneck speed. From new signings to retaining old staff, Brady has been keeping busy.
After the introductory press conference for defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard, offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr., and special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers, Brady spoke to the media and opened up on a handful of staff that would be retained under the new regime.
Brady confirmed that running backs coach Kelly Skipper, tight ends coach Rob Boras, assistant offensive line coach Austin Gund, assistant wide receivers coach DJ Managas, offensive quality control Kyle Schurmer, offensive assistant Amelia Wilson, and passing game coordinator Marc Lubick would all be coming back next season and retained on staff.
The Bills are bringing in some new faces this season to go along with those that have been retained. The team has a new quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree, wide receivers coach Drew Terrel, offensive line coach Pat Meyer, defensive line coach Terrance Jamison, outside linebackers coach Bobby April III, inside linebacker coach John Eguwogru, and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai.
It’ll be a whirlwind of updates coming out of One Bills Drive as the team still has quite a few positions of need that will require some new personnel to take over. The team is without an assistant defensive line coach, a nickel cornerback coach, a safety coach, and a senior defensive assistant, as Brady didn’t say that those members would be returning next season.
Brady’s approach so far has been a clear blend of continuity and calculated change. By retaining familiar voices while aggressively reshaping key areas of the staff, he’s setting a foundation that prioritizes stability without sacrificing evolution.
With several important roles still to be filled, this offseason is far from finished, and if the early pace is any indication, Brady isn’t wasting a single moment getting the Bills ready for what could be a defining year in 2026.
