Bills had an advantage no other NFL team possessed in D.J. Moore trade, and they’re pulling the trigger to help Josh Allen
What a day for the Bills Mafia.
The Buffalo Bills are making a splash and getting quarterback Josh Allen a new weapon, as Adam Schefter broke the news that the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills are working on a trade that would send wide receiver DJ Moore to the Bills.
As Schefter reported, the compensation is still being discussed, and the trade cannot officially take place until the new league year begins, but both sides are pushing to get the deal done. Early reports by Ian Rapoport show that it’s a mid-round pick compensation going back, which would be a huge win for the Bills. Getting Allen some help without sacrificing the future should have the Bills Mafia excited.
If you’re wondering if Moore has some juice left in the tank, look no further than this unreal game-winning touchdown from last season. You be the judge.
DJ Moore and Joe Brady reunite for another run at a Super Bowl
Moore has some history with the new head coach, Joe Brady, as the pair spent two seasons together with the Carolina Panthers when Brady was the offensive coordinator under then head coach Matt Rhule. In those two seasons playing in Brady’s offense, Moore totaled 159 receptions for 2,350 yards and eight touchdowns.
To add to the mix, the Bills’ wide receiver coach, Drew Terrell, was the offensive quality control coach at Carolina with Joe Brady while he was the offensive coordinator; the ties back to these two individuals helped get the deal done, and give Allen an important weapon in the offense.
Something that the fans are hoping continues when the pair reunite once the trade is finalized.
Moore needs a new start, and this trade does exactly that. Moore is coming off a disappointing season, production-wise, and Chicago has drafted three playmakers on offense over the past two years in Rome Odunze, Colston Loveland, and Luther Burden III, making the deal an easy decision for the Chicago Bears. He gets a fresh start with the Bills, and fans are already excited about the deal.
The only cause for concern is the cap number being so high, with $23 million guaranteed in 2026, $24.5 million in 2027, $24,5 million in 2028, and $24.5 million in 2029. As Spotrac reported, $15.5 million of his 2027 salary becomes fully guaranteed on March 13. It’ll be interesting to see what general manager Brandon Beane does to get that cap number down. One thing is for certain: more moves are about to be made for the Bills.
A to Z Sports Chicago Bears expert breaks down the trade
Kole Noble from A to Z Sports Chicago broke down the trade and what it means for the Bills.
“DJ Moore arrived to Chicago and immediately became a big-time play-maker for the Bears offense catching passes from quarterback Justin Fields in 2023. Things changed in 2024 when the Bears drafted quarterback Caleb Williams and brought a new offensive scheme led by Shane Waldron.
Moore went from being a downfield threat to being a short-yard specialist after the catch, a role that continued when Ben Johnson arrived to Chicago in 2025. It’s clear that role in the Bears’ offense wasn’t the best fit for Moore over the last two seasons and his stats no longer justified the price tag.
Even still, he never once complained and was a reliable player for the offense regardless of his role while being as durable as they come. Getting to reunite with Joe Brady and play with quarterback Josh Allen will be the best situation for Moore while still being in the prime of his career.” — Kole Noble
No matter how the cap details are ultimately sorted out, the message from Buffalo is crystal clear: the Bills are serious about surrounding Josh Allen with legitimate playmakers.
If the deal officially goes through once the new league year begins, Allen will finally have another proven weapon on the outside, and Moore will have a chance to rediscover the form that made him one of the league’s most productive receivers earlier in his career.
For a Bills team trying to capitalize on its Super Bowl window, this is exactly the kind of aggressive move fans have been begging for. Now the only question left is what Brandon Beane has planned next.
