Josh Allen has very positive things to say about the state of the Buffalo Bills' passing attack

When you think of the Buffalo Bills offense, the theme in recent years has been quarterback Josh Allen putting the team on his back, chucking it down the field, hurdling some defenders while running through others, all while attempting a ton of passes. Allen, in fact, had the third-most pass attempts in the league from 2020-2023 behind only Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert.

So far in 2024, things have looked a little bit different. Through the first two weeks of the season, Allen and the Bills had attempted the second-fewest pass attempts in the league.

Allen was asked if that "feels weird."

"I mean, I think given our situation this last week, when you know we're running it as well as we are and we got the ball in really good field position throughout the entire game, that's just kind of the game it's going to be," Allen said. "I don't know if I'd say 'weird.' I think it feels pretty good, you know, and being able to hand the ball off to James [Cook] and Ray Ray [Davis] and let them go do some work, and our offensive line is opening some holes for them, they're running it really hard, and we're having some success doing it. So if it's working, keep calling it. And, you know, I know that it's going to present itself in the pass game. We're going to have opportunities, and we're going to go make them."

The run game was definitely working. Cook won AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his Week 2 performance that saw him take 11 carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns, while catching his only pass for a 17 yard score through the air.

Davis is operaring as the clear second option, and saw his opportunities increase in Week 2 as well, carrying it nine times.

Allen is a smart quarterback. He's well aware of what's taking place around the league and understands that the discourse surrounding the prevelance of two-high safety looks means teams will need to be able to run the ball. For Allen and the Bills, being able to gash teams on the ground will bring their defenses down into the box, which can then open up opportunities through the air.

As Allen said, if it's working, keep calling it.
