Josh Allen gets the exact fuel he needs to steady his play and it arrives at the perfect moment for the Bills
The Bills have a tough task ahead of them.
The Buffalo Bills are making their final preparations for the upcoming “Thursday Night Football” showdown against the Houston Texans. It’s a tough task, as Buffalo is already undermanned in the contest with wide receivers Mecole Hardman and Curtis Samuel, along with tight end Dalton Kincaid, ruled out, per head coach Sean McDermott.
Quarterback Josh Allen has a lengthy history against the Houston Texans, with a 1-3 record, including the playoffs, and has yet to secure a victory on the road in Houston. In fact, in the last meeting between the two teams, Allen arguably had his worst game as a professional, with his lowest career completion percentage and totaling less than 150 yards through the air.
It’s something that he pointed out when speaking to the media ahead of the contest, and it’s the fuel he needs to drive him to great things. Allen is hungry to get back out there and prove that he has what it takes against one of the league’s best defenses. The Texans’ defense is first in EPA/play and third in success rate.
“I got beat up that game. Didn’t play well at all. Watching that film, there’s a lot of good stuff to watch from that film but it’s hard to watch,” Allen said. “I played pretty badly. So yeah, hopefully we can go out there and play a little bit better and move the ball a little better.”
Allen’s accountability signals the reigning MVP is locked in and ready to correct course when it matters most, a sign that he can get his play on the right track at the perfect time.
Allen’s history against the Texans
In four games against Houston, including the playoffs, Allen is averaging 51.2 percent completion percentage and 181 yards with 0.8 touchdowns. He’ll need to put on his Superman cape once again if Buffalo hopes to walk into Houston and leave with a win.
Allen has been doubted plenty in his career before, and he typically uses that to fuel him to great things. When his back is against the wall, he puts on his Superman cape and leads the team to victory. That was prevalent in the Week 11 win, with Allen putting the team on his back with six total touchdowns, earning him AFC Offensive Player of the Week for the 17th time in his career.
If you’re only as good as your last game, then Bills Mafia should love their chances heading into Houston. It’ll be a tall task, and Allen is going to need to play his best and do whatever they can to control the clock and get running back James Cook going in the matchup.
Allen is playing his best football and is looking to right some wrongs from last season, which is a terrifying concept for opposing defensive coordinators. With a victory, Buffalo has a 97 percent chance to make the postseason, which should provide a little extra spark under the bright lights of “Thursday Night Football.”
