Josh Allen makes honest admission about special halftime moment that helped fuel the Bills to victory over the Patriots
QB1 with an honest admission after the game. Whatever happened at halftime, it worked.
The Buffalo Bills pulled off the improbable comeback over the New England Patriots, down 21 points at one point. It was largely thanks to the efforts of quarterback Josh Allen, who once again put the team on his back and helped lead them to victory.
Allen was electric, often making something out of nothing and finishing the day going 19-for-28 for 193 yards and three touchdowns passing, while adding 11 carries for 48 yards on the ground. Buffalo found themselves in a hole early, and it appeared like all hope was lost for a second.
Buffalo needed some big second-half adjustments, and that’s exactly what happened. Running back and return man Ray Davis opened the fun with a huge return that helped set up Buffalo for a touchdown. The team was a totally different unit in the second half.
Halftime adjustments made all the difference for Buffalo
Allen brought up a special halftime moment with his teammates, which was the catalyst for the comeback. The team rallied and had a game plan for the second half. While it may sound simple, they needed to score, get a stop, and score again. They are a close-knit unit, and just used the time to rally together, which made all the difference. Allen made an honest admission about what went down.
“We stayed the course, stayed together,” Allen said. “Didn’t ride the highs, didn’t ride the lows. Just told ourselves at halftime, we really felt like we were hurting ourselves in the first half. Going out there and just trying to execute each and every given play.”
Allen was asked whether or not the “score, stop, score” comments were said out loud at halftime.
“Yeah, if it’s not said, it’s known within the locker room,” Allen said. “It’s said by a lot of guys. That’s the belief we have in each other of ‘this is what we’re going to do.’ It’s one thing to say it, it’s another thing to go out there and do it.”
Allen shows some love for his teammates
Allen is always quick to shout out his teammates after a win, and Sunday was no different. His tight end, Dawson Knox, became a father earlier this weekend and capped it off with a two-touchdown performance, and now leads the franchise in touchdowns by a tight end.
He’s been an integral part of the offense the past few weeks, finding himself with more opportunities in the passing game, something Allen was asked about after the game.
“I mean, he just continues to find himself in good situations,” Allen said. “He’s been making plays. Really, on the year, maybe not a whole lot of hay coming his way, but he’s never once complained, he’s worked his butt off, he’s blocked his tail off in the run game. He’s finding himself these opportunities come the last few weeks and taking advantage of him, and I love the guy.”
It wasn’t just Knox that got his flowers. Allen was asked after yet another comeback to list a moment that stuck out to him. Once again, he showered his teammates with praise, directing the attention away from himself. He’s a true leader on and off the football field.
“I think, you know, coming out of that second half, may have been Ray Davis’ return,” Allen said. “Putting us in good field position, giving us confidence [ . . . ] we don’t have to worry about the score, we’re going to take it one play at a time. But him, he did a great job, and he’s done a great job the entire season in the kickoff return spot. He’s set us up for some really good field position.”
For Buffalo, it was another reminder of what makes this team dangerous when the stakes rise. The Bills didn’t panic, didn’t point fingers, and didn’t abandon who they are. They leaned on their quarterback, trusted each other, and went to work one play at a time.
Against a division rival down three scores, Buffalo showed once again that no deficit is too large when No. 17 is leading the huddle.
