Josh Allen makes honest admission about Bills’ ‘wake-up’ call loss vs. Patriots that’s further proof he’s one of the best in the league
Josh Allen wasn’t holding anything back with his comments.
The Buffalo Bills have been just getting by through the first stretch of the NFL season, according to quarterback Josh Allen. While 4-1, the team lost at home to the New England Patriots in a game where Buffalo looked sloppy all night. Costly penalties, turnovers, miscues; it was a rough showing.
With the devastating loss comes some introspection, and boy did Allen have that in spades on Thursday. Allen said that the brutal loss could turn into something positive for the organization moving forward: a wake-up call. Jenna Cottrell, Buffalo Bills reporter at 13WHAM, shared the viral interaction on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I think it’s a wake-up call, reset, whatever you want to call it,” Allen said. “We had been getting by previous games of maybe not playing our best football, and when you play a team that again, did everything the right way, credit to them for coming into our home stadium and having a really good game plan. It does wake you up in terms of every week we’re going to get the team’s best, whoever we playings best. We gotta play up to our standard at the end of the day, this is the NFL. Each and every week has got to be earned, and that starts in practice.”
Allen’s comments could lead to great things vs. the Falcons
Allen was fired up immediately after the loss to the Patriots, and the same can be said about his comments on Thursday. He’s hungry to get back on the field to compete, especially after the loss against the Patriots. His honest admission is further proof that he’s one of the best in the league in that he’s always been at the forefront to take responsibility or take on the glory.
Yes, it’s every quarterback’s job to do so, but Allen has never faltered in these moments of reflection. He’s always been great at firing up the fan base and then pulling on his bootstraps and getting to work. It’s the dedication and obsession to get better that pours out in every facet of his game, even his PR training.
The reigning MVP has been on fire through the first five weeks of the season, throwing for over 1,200 yards with nine touchdowns while adding more than 200 yards on the ground with three rushing touchdowns. He’s one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in all of sports, and he feels as though he just had a wake-up call, a scary thought for opposing defensive coordinators.
Buffalo has a bit of history on their side, outside of Allen’s comments to fire up the fanbase and organization. In nine seasons as the head coach for Buffalo, excluding playoffs, Sean McDermott is 30-13 in the game after a regular-season loss (through 2024).
