In the win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the star of the show, undoubtedly, was quarterback Josh Allen. The reigning MVP put his Superman cape on, scoring six total touchdowns. After an abysmal performance against the Miami Dolphins, this was a huge bounce-back game for Buffalo.

The biggest talking point before the game was the decision to make wide receiver Keon Coleman a healthy scratch. Coleman reportedly arrived late to a team meeting, marking the third time in his career he has missed playing time due to off-the-field issues.

Immediately after the game, Allen was asked about Coleman’s absence.

“I don’t make those decisions. We would have loved to have him out there,” Allen said. “The way that rosters work is how it works sometimes.”

He was then asked about being a leader on the team and what he does in such situations. Specifically, what he had to say to Keon after the decision was made.

“Just continue to keep working hard,” Allen said. “Control what he can control.”

Coleman’s absence allows others to shine in the offense

With tight end Dalton Kincaid out and Coleman missing due to disciplinary reasons, others stepped up. Specifically, it allowed receiver Tyrell Shavers to have a career day against the Bucs.

Shavers led the team in receiving yards and receptions, even finding the end zone on one of the best plays of the entire game. The talented pass-catcher made sure to take advantage of his opportunities.

Allen was asked about how cool it was to see Shavers play well against the Bucs, with the franchise quarterback gushing about the pass catcher and his abilities, both as a receiver and on special teams.

“It’s so friggin cool. The guy just continues to work extremely hard. He’s never once complained, working from practice squad to now making legit plays in the NFL,” Allen said. “And then you turn around after he scores a touchdown and he’s on kickoff, he’s on punt return, he’s doing all these things. It’s fun to watch, it’s inspiring [ . . . ] reward for doing his opportunity to do more, and I think that’s what he’s earned over the course of the season and his career.”

Shavers’ breakout wasn’t just a feel-good moment; it was a reminder of how deep this roster can be when players buy in. With Allen playing at an MVP level once again, and under-the-radar contributors taking advantage of their chances, Buffalo looks like a team finding its rhythm at the right time.
