The Buffalo Bills narrowly escaped Cleveland, but walked out with a victory on Sunday.

It wasn’t perfect; it wasn’t pretty, but at this point in the season, wins are the only thing that matters, no matter how ugly they may be on the field.

Bills Mafia got quite the scare late in the first half, when quarterback Josh Allen went down with an injury and needed to go to the locker room before halftime. Allen scrambled out of the pocket, trying to evade pressure before giving himself up awkwardly at the one-yard line. Suffice to say, if Allen were to get injured, the season would effectively be over for Buffalo.

After the win, Allen opened up on the injury, giving fans a sigh of relief when asked how his foot is feeling after the victory.

“We’re gravy baby,” Allen said. “It’s all good.”

Allen was pedestrian on the day, not donning his usual Superman cape with MVP-like numbers. Instead, the reigning MVP went 12-for-19 with 130 yards while adding seven carries for 17 yards.

The defense struggled at times, but really, the offense in the second half was nonexistent. Allen left nothing to the imagination with his comments about what the win meant afterwards.

“I mean, it takes everybody,” Allen said. “They were fighting hard too, doesn’t got to look pretty. You know, we’re just trying to win a football game, and that’s what we did today and got some stuff to clean up.”

The Buffalo Bills shut down Myles Garrett

It seemed like the game plan on offense was more focused on stopping defensive end Myles Garrett than it was on getting anything going for Buffalo. If that was indeed the game plan, they succeeded. Garrett was one sack away from tying the NFL single-season record, but left with only 0.5 sacks.

The offensive line for Buffalo held strong and shut down one of the best weapons in football.

“Oh, they did a great job [on Sunday],” Allen said. “He’s an absolute gamewrecker, you gotta know where he is at all times, a lot of respect for him.”

Once again, it may not be pretty, but Buffalo walked away with a victory. In late December, these wins hold much more weight. With the win, Buffalo is one loss from the Indianapolis Colts away from clinching a playoff berth.

“Tough games, one-score games, you gotta find ways to get first downs when they know you’re running the football,” Allen added. “That’s hard-nose football right there.”

If there’s a silver lining to performances like this, it’s that they tend to sharpen a team rather than break it. The Bills weren’t satisfied with their performance, but they left with another notch in the win column, which matters the most this time of year.

Style points are gone, perfection is irrelevant, and the only goal is surviving and advancing. Buffalo did exactly that, learning another hard lesson along the way while keeping its postseason path alive.
