The Buffalo Bills did not play good, sound, fundamental football against the Atlanta Falcons, and now have losses in back-to-back weeks. Quarterback Josh Allen didn’t put on his Superman cape and will the team to victory; in fact, the offense’s lack of firepower was a big reason the team couldn’t get the job done.

Allen was blunt with his postgame messaging, repeatedly telling reporters that he needs to be better and that he understands he needs to be better moving forward. The entire loss doesn’t rest on Allen’s shoulders, but the offense struggled to put up any points, even with the defense giving plenty of opportunities in the second half.

“It takes everyone, little details matter,” Allen said. “It wasn’t good enough tonight, we gotta find ways. We had some God-given opportunities [ . . . ] we had our opportunities to take advantage of and we didn’t.”

The reigning MVP took full accountability, even when asked about tight end Dalton Kincaid’s absence from the lineup, with a blunt, personal response from QB1.

“I mean, not great, being down Dalton and Curtis,” Allen said. “Guys gotta step up in that position and thought there were some plays made tonight. Again, I gotta be better for this team.”

Falcons shutdown the Bills’ offense

The Falcons made life difficult for Allen and the offense all night, with plenty of pressures and quarterback hits. Allen went down on more than one occasion, even wincing in pain and shaking his hand off during the contest. Allen was quick to dismiss any notion that he was battling through injury.

After the game, Allen was asked whether the loss came at a good time, with the team going into its bye week. For Allen, it’s something that will sit with him for a while.

“I mean, it’s going to eat at me the next two weeks,” Allen said. “A lot of stuff to clean up, we’ll put our focus to our next opponent and go from there.”

The frustrated quarterback repeated that he needs to be better for his team. The reigning MVP was asked about the loss and what lesson he may have learned from it, providing insight into what makes him tick.

“We got to take advantage of our opportunities, the ones that I alluded to earlier,” Allen said. “Some things that absolutely completely went our way. It sucks when you feel like 2/3rds of your team is the offense and the defense is doing their job, and you’re the team not to pull your weight, it sucks. Again, gotta get in the film room and learn from our mistakes and learn on.”

The loss stings for a team built to contend, and the timing of the bye week offers no immediate chance for redemption. The Bills’ season is far from lost, but their margin for error is shrinking fast.
