Explosive wide receiver prospect makes huge admission that could finally set Josh Allen up with the No. 1 weapon Bills crave
Brandon Beane, do whatever you need to do to get this deal done.
The Buffalo Bills should be in the market for a wide receiver this offseason. If you ask the Bills Mafia, it’s the biggest team need. Buffalo should ferociously attack getting a true No. 1 option to pair alongside quarterback Josh Allen. The 2026 NFL Draft’s top receiver would like to fill that need.
Ohio State’s Carnell Tate appeared on the Downs 2 Business podcast with Ohio State safety Caleb Downs and Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs. During the podcast, Allen’s name in particular was brought up as a potential option, and it’s one that Tate is a big fan of.
“I’d love to go play with Josh Allen,” Tate said. “He can get you the ball; he’s experienced.”
Carnell Tate wants to team up with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills
Tate went on to discuss the type of role he is looking for in whatever club decides to select him on draft day. Bringing up names like Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba and Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua, and the massive amount of targets they get per game.
“I just want to go somewhere that’s targeted me, though,” Tate said. “That’s all I can ask for. The JSN targets he just got, the Puka Nacua targets, where I go don’t really matter, it’s about the ball.”
Buffalo would have to get creative if it wanted to jump up and grab Tate. Currently, he is seen a top 10 option in the upcoming draft, and Buffalo is set to pick at No. 26. They’d have to make a huge trade on draft day if they wanted to pair Tate with Allen, but never say never.
The team has shown in previous years that they’re willing to be aggressive to go and get their guy, and Tate could be the perfect fit and another example of the team doing just that. If they want to bring in a player who could completely change the trajectory of the franchise on offense, Tate would be an excellent pick.
The talented receiver enters the draft coming off a season where he had 875 yards on 51 catches for nine touchdowns.
Ryan Roberts from A to Z Sports discusses Carnell Tate’s performance and impact
I spoke with Ryan Roberts from A to Z Sports on the type of player Tate is, and it should have the Bills Mafia not only ready to run through a brick wall, but have them wanting to pick up the phone and dial general manager Brandon Beane personally to try and coax him into getting the deal done.
“Carnell Tate was a good player for Ohio State in 2024, but he turned himself into an elite one this past season. At 6-2+ with extremely long arms, Tate excels working on the perimeter, excelling in contested catch situations with strong hands and good leaping ability.
“Tate understands how to outleverage opposing defenders for the football, having an uncanny ability to work near the sideline. With sudden movement skills and that natural length, there is a lot to love about Tate physically. The biggest difference in his game from a year ago, however, is the nuance with which he plays. Tate has become a much better separator in 2025, developing a deeper understanding of how to attack leverage, and identify blind spots.
“His improvement to uncover vertically has turned him into a legitimate three-level threat with even more upside to tap into on the NFL level.” – Ryan Roberts, A to Z Sports
This is exactly the kind of swing that could define the next phase of the Josh Allen era in Buffalo. The Bills don’t need another developmental piece; they need a difference-maker who can grow into the guy. Tate checks every box: Size, production, polish, and the confidence to want the ball in big moments.
If Buffalo truly wants to elevate the ceiling on offense, this is the type of aggressive move that sends a message to the locker room and the rest of the league that the Bills aren’t done chasing greatness.
