Josh Allen singles out Lamar Jackson as the player whose style he wishes to emulate in a key area of his game
Quite the take from QB1.
Former Tennessee Titans Taylor Lewan and NFL journeyman Will Compton host a podcast named Bussin with The Boys and had none other than Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen as one of the guests on their most recent episode.
In it, Allen was asked which one skill he could add to his game and named none other than Lamar Jackson, with Allen wishing he could add Jackson’s speed to his repertoire. He also named Steve Young for a similar reason: speed. Allen is hooked on Young’s highlights recently.
During the interview, Compton asked, “If you could take one skill from another quarterback, what would it be and who would it be from?” Allen, clarifying, “Of all time?” That’s when Compton laid out the ground rules, “Let’s say currently and of all-time.”
The Bills QB took a beat before answering, “I wish I was faster like Lamar (Jackson). That’d be pretty cool. He’s fast fast… I’m deceptively fast… I’m a bad angle fast. Lamar’s speed. And, of all time, Steve Young. That’s it.”
Both franchises have elite QBs
The Bills Mafia is all too aware of the devastating speed Jackson displays on a football field. It was both he and Josh Allen who were ultimately the front-runners for the MVP last season, and it’s not hard to see why.
Since joining the league in the same draft class, both QBs have gone on to do incredible things for their respective organization and cities.
That’s not to say that Allen doesn’t have wheels of his own. The QB1 was kind in the interview, downplaying just how much of a freak athlete he is himself. The Bills veteran has a history of hurdling linebackers and outrunning safeties; he’s also very fast.
Allen and Jackson overcame adversity
If you took Allen’s current skill set and then added Jackson’s speed, it would be an absolute nightmare for any opposing defense. While there has been plenty of discourse online over who the better QB is, there would be no debate on what type of QB Allen would be if he had Jackson’s speed
Both Allen and Jackson faced their fair share of criticism when entering the league. For Allen, he was told that his issues with inaccuracy couldn’t be overcome. Jackson was told he needed to change to WR to be successful. Oh, how wrong those “experts” were on both of these superstar QBs.
We’re truly blessed as fans to get to watch both of these QBs compete on Sundays.
After winning an MVP and marrying a superhero on top of some national brand deals, Josh Allen has had quite the busy offseason. Pair that with HBO’s Hard Knocks following the team over the next few weeks, and a lot of eyes have been on Buffalo. It’s no surprise that Lewan and Compton wanted in on the Buffalo magic and to interview one of the biggest superstars in the entire NFL.
