Bills’ Josh Allen brings up unforgettable message he got from his grandmother after the loss to the Falcons, and it’s beyond perfect
Leave it to Josh Allen’s grandmother with one of the best pieces of advice we’ve heard.
The Buffalo Bills are back to practice after a bye week, and injuries are rearing their ugly heads at One Bills Drive. Sean McDermott has said that defensive tackle DaQuan Jones and receiver Josh Palmer are week-to-week with injuries, and safety Taylor Rapp is unable to practice as well.
It wasn’t all bad news coming out of Buffalo, though, as quarterback and reigning MVP, Josh Allen, spoke to the media about all things football, even offering a hilarious call he got from his grandmother after the loss against the Atlanta Falcons.
Allen isn’t pushing the panic button on the season and wants to ensure everyone knows that the team is doing all it can to get on the right track. However, it was Allen’s grandmother who stole the show at the press conference, all while being miles away from the facilities.
Josh Allen’s grandmother has an important request for QB1
The reigning MVP was asked how the team can have fun and how much responsibility Allen takes to ensure everyone stays loose. In the middle of his statement, he brought up the call from his grandmother, who told him he needs to “smile more.”
“Being in the quarterback position, a lot of people look at this position,” Allen said. “They draw sometimes strength from it or can be inspired by this position, so, again, going out there and working extremely hard and doing my job in leading from the front, but also having energy and juice.
“Not putting my head in the sand,” Allen continued. “My grandma called me and was like, ‘I just wanna see you smile.’ Getting back to some of that and in practice making sure that we’re really emphasizing, when we score, let’s go celebrate. It’s hard to score in this league; it’s hard to win in this league. I feel like that, again, helps build the team too when you’re taking an extra 15 seconds throughout practice to go celebrate.
“You pick somebody off and have a lineman spike the ball, that’s what we’re going to get back to,” Allen finished.
Allen mentioned that his grandmother stays up late to watch all the games and that she doesn’t often give him advice.
“Not too often,” Allen added. “So obviously when she says something, I’m going to be listening.”
Allen used the bye week to recharge and refocus
The franchise quarterback was asked how he used the bye week to recharge and what he might have learned from the extra time off, away from football activities.
“Try to disconnect and not think about it,” Allen said. “Allow your mind to kind of reset and be refreshed. It’s hard not to think about it; it’s hard not to want to get back in the building and continue to work on your craft and get in with our guys and put together a game plan. Had a nice little practice on Monday, so that was nice getting the ball rolling. Listen, we’ve got a lot of work to do, but this is a team that has a lot of guys that want to do that work, that care for each other, and we’re just excited for another opportunity this week.”
Leave it to Allen’s grandmother to deliver the message the Bills Mafia has been waiting for — smile, play loose, and get back to having fun. If that energy returns to One Bills Drive, watch out.
