The Buffalo Bills defeated the Baltimore Ravens after erasing a 15-point deficit behind a monster effort from Josh Allen, who drove the team down the field to set up the game-winning field goal. While the defense struggled early in stopping Henry, a few crucial stops late in the game allowed Buffalo a chance.

The defense had been gashed, but it wasn’t all bad news on the defensive front. Bills’ unsung hero Ed Oliver had a career night and deserves his flowers after the performance.

He was disruptive in both the run and pass, making life difficult for Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry. Oliver had a 95.1 grade against the run and finished with six tackles, four run stops, three tackles for loss, three pressures, one sack, one forced fumble, one hurry, and one quarterback hit.

With a little over three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Oliver forced a fumble against Henry, swinging the momentum back in Buffalo’s favor.

Ed Oliver dominates against the Baltimore Ravens

All the talk of the town will be how Allen and the offense sealed the victory, but Oliver deserves his praise for what he was able to accomplish on Sunday. Early in the contest, it seemed as though it was going to be a blowout, with Henry running roughshod on the Bills’ defense.

Oliver and the defense settled down and got the job done. Of course, you don’t want any team to drop more than 40 points on you at home, and this doesn’t quiet the nerves of Bills fans worried about the defense moving forward, but when it mattered, they showed up.

The talented defensive tackle had been busy all game, even bringing down Lamar Jackson early on in the contest. It’s not easy to bring down Henry or Lamar, but Oliver made sure both felt his presence during the contest. This is exactly the type of performance the fan base was hoping to get more consistently out of him.

Never count the Buffalo Bills out, even if the game seemed well out of reach throughout. The combined efforts from the defense down the stretch, with some unbelievable plays from the offense, sealed the deal for Buffalo in a fitting final home opener at Highmark Stadium.

Victory Monday hits a little different after a win like that.
