Bills’ Keon Coleman breaks his silence after being benched in the team’s unexpected loss to the Patriots
Keon Coleman left nothing to the imagination on why he was benched.
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman was benched due to disciplinary reasons in the team’s Week 5 loss to the New England Patriots. It wasn’t the first time in his career that Coleman was forced to miss some time, even if it was just a few snaps, due to some off-the-field issues.
In the 2024 season, Coleman was benched for the first quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars after being late to a meeting.
After practice on Thursday, the talented wide receiver opened up to the media about his benching and made a strong statement about his future with the team.
It’s all water under the bridge, as Coleman looks forward to proving that all of his offseason work and hype were worth it. Coleman was poised for a breakout year entering his second season in the league. Staying on the field is of the utmost importance.
“I mean, there was really no reaction; it was expected,” Coleman said. “We communicated that, so it was understandable [ . . . ] we keep that in-house, but you know, like you said, disciplinary reasons. I got to be more accountable.”
Keon Coleman knows he needs to be better
Coleman was then asked about how he’s going to respond moving forward and what types of things he can do to prevent it from happening again.
“Be where I’m supposed to be, do what I’m supposed to do, and show that level of maturity.”
The talk of training camp has been how Coleman has ascended to become the ultimate professional and a leader on this team. Coleman was asked if he was on the right track and if things like the benching would happen again. He was asked if he was frustrated with his growth in the offseason and having a setback by being benched.
“Yeah, for sure, things happen. You just gotta do your best to eliminate them [ . . . ] I mean, I wouldn’t call it a setback, it was just a growing pain in a sense,” Coleman said. “Yeah, it is frustrating cause you know you’re better than that as a person and individual. You don’t like the things that it shows; sometimes it might show that you don’t care, or things like that, and that’s not the case. Want to eliminate those things.”
The rising star on offense had a perfect response to his benching and will use it to hopefully fuel him to great things as the season progresses. Through the early stages of the 2025 season, Coleman has totaled 21 receptions for 226 yards and two touchdowns.
