Bills’ Keon Coleman gets the news he’s been waiting for from head coach Joe Brady on what his 2026 season will really look like

The Buffalo Bills and Keon Coleman have a strained relationship, regardless of what head coach Joe Brady might say to the media. Once again, Brady is doubling down on Coleman and his expectations for the receiver heading into 2026.

The Buffalo Bills and wide receiver Keon Coleman have an interesting relationship.

After head coach Sean McDermott was fired, general manager Brandon Beane and owner Terry Pegula spent some time in McDermott’s farewell press conference throwing the receiver under the bus in a bizarre set of circumstances that still has me puzzled.

Coleman hasn’t quite lived up to the hype when Buffalo drafted him, failing to make a huge impact on the offense and even finding himself benched on more than one occasion for disciplinary reasons. You’d think that it would point to some trouble brewing for his future with the organization, but new head coach Joe Brady wanted none of that.

Brady has been vocal about Coleman being a key part of this team moving forward, and at the annual coaches meeting, Brady doubled down once again on Coleman’s role.

“Keon’s not going to just be pushed aside,” Brady said. “He’s going to continue to develop and we have a great plan of what we’re going to do to be able to get him to be the receiver we ultimately drafted him to be.”

Joe Brady has high praise for Keon Coleman despite his lack of production

Coleman hasn’t lived up to the hype of where he was drafted, with Buffalo selecting him in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the 33rd overall selection. That’s not to say that there hasn’t been some hype surrounding the receiver.

After a solid offseason program, offensive lineman Dion Dawkins said that the league better get ready for Coleman’s arrival in 2025. In the first game of the season, it looked like exactly that: Keon Coleman had arrived.

In Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens, he caught eight of 11 targets for 112 yards and a touchdown in the thrilling comeback win, but then didn’t do too much the rest of the season. After being benched twice, Coleman was only able to muster 38 receptions for 404 yards and four touchdowns for the entirety of the season. Not exactly a breakout performance from the second-year wide receiver.

Still, Brady has hope that his best football is ahead of Coleman, and Buffalo desperately needs that to be true, with just a look at the state of the receiving corps.

If Brady is right, this isn’t just about salvaging Coleman’s development; it’s about unlocking an offense that still hasn’t fully hit its ceiling.

The Bills don’t need Coleman to be perfect, but they do need him to be consistent, and 2026 is shaping up to be the year that answers whether he can be that guy or just another “what could have been.”
