Bills’ rising star has a perfect one-word response when asked about his availability for Week 1 vs. Ravens
Keon Coleman didn’t hold back.
The Buffalo Bills are looking a little depleted heading into the season-opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 7, but that doesn’t mean it’s all bad news coming out of One Bills Drive.
Second-year receiver Keon Coleman was a breath of fresh air when asked about his availability for Sunday’s contest. With sky-high expectations of his own going into Year 2, it was an exciting update from the talented pass catcher. Dion Dawkins had gone viral earlier in the offseason talking about how the league better be ready for Coleman, that he’s going to break out. During an interview shared by Matt Parrino on X, Bills beat reporter for Syracuse.com, Coleman was asked if he’s worried about playing on Sunday, and he left nothing to the imagination.
“Nah,” Coleman said.
Coleman has been fighting through a groin injury throughout camp but seems more than ready for the challenge ahead. His mindset is perfect before the matchup, and it’s enough to fire up the Bills Mafia. He wants to be on the field and win, and you could feel that with his response.
“I mean, pretty much something I couldn’t control. But, just trying to stay on top of it with treatment and staying in the training room so I feel my best to go out there and compete,” Coleman said.
Having him out on the field competing with the reigning MVP is the goal. While he didn’t set the league on fire during his rookie campaign, he did leave the fan base with a few unforgettable catches, something that both he and the fans hope continue in 2025 and beyond.
Keon Coleman opens up about matchup against the Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens are a tough matchup with a former MVP in Lamar Jackson but on the defensive side of the football, a new addition in Jaire Alexander in the backfield bolstered an already impressive unit. On what Coleman sees out of the Ravens, he’s keeping it real. He pointed back to their previous matchup, focusing on the task at hand while giving the team their flowers.
“Pretty much the same thing as last year,” Coleman said. “They got an iced out, using a big word for you, iced out d-line so they got some guys out there along with some guys in the second level with their linebackers. So they got some depth at that point. In the backend still the same type of players. They replaced 21 with Awuzie I think he’s 3 this year, pretty sure, they replaced a guy but similar defense. Different coverages, try to confuse you up front and then play zone behind it, play man behind it. So they try to mix up things on you.”
When asked about what they’re looking to achieve in the game on offense, Coleman kept things close to the vest.
“Man if I told you that, I’d give you the keys to the win at that point,” Coleman offered. “Just execution, whatever we call, execute. Keep them moving and going, standing in front of the chains. Don’t let them get to the designer down when they feel like you’re in a must-throw situation because then they can do whatever. Their d-ends, d-line get to pin their ears back. Want to stay out of second and long, third and long situations.”
Bills final injury report is a sign of good news for Coleman
After his interview, the team released their final injury report heading into Week 1, with Coleman being listed as a full participant it’s a good sign that he’ll be on the field Sunday. The second-year receiver is hoping to have a break out year in an offense that’s constantly described as “everyone eats.” He finished his rookie year with 29 catches for 556 yards and four touchdowns.
All aboard the Coleman hype train, Bills Mafia is hoping for big things out of him. Perhaps the only person with higher expectations is Coleman himself.
Nevertheless, we won’t have to wait long to see all his hard work pay off as the home-opener is rapidly approaching. Coleman seems ready, and from the latest injury update Buffalo must feel good about his recovery.
