Things are going in the opposite direction of good when it comes to the health of Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman, who suffered a hand/wrist injury after taking a hit from former Bills' fan favorite Jordan Poyer last Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

After logging two straight missed practices to start the week, Coleman was ruled out for this Sunday's meeting against the Indianapolis Colts, and could potentially miss more.

"I don't believe so," head coach Sean McDermott said when asked if Injured Reserve will be needed for Coleman. "It has been a conversation. When we talk to the docs, and this is where we get the information from, is say, 'Hey, how long exactly?' And there's, like anything, a little bit of gray area on, just because it's an injury, right? So it's probably going to be more than this week. It's probably going to be multiple weeks. I just don't know how far into the future, it'll go."

That's not encouraging. This is the first inclination that has been provided about Coleman that would allude to this potentially being a multi-week issue.

Later in his media availability, McDermott was asked specifically about what type of injury Coleman is dealing with, whether it's a fracture or a strain or something else, and McDermott didn't know. He alluded to the fact that the medical terminology isn't what he gets from the medical staff, that they essentially just tell him that Coleman won't be able to play.

The timing of the injury is very interesting. Buffalo has a date with the Colts this weekend before returning home to Orchard Park for a Week 11 matchup with the AFC No. 1 seed Kansas City Chiefs, who are the last standing undefeated team in the NFL at 8-0. Buffalo is 1.5 games behind them at 7-2.

If Buffalo beats the Colts this weekend, then next weekend's matchup with Kansas City could have huge implications on the No. 1 seed in the playoff standings. Coleman's availability for that game would be significant.

Following Week 11's home meeting with the Chiefs, the Bills have their bye week. With McDermott saying this will likely be multiple weeks, I would be shocked if we see Coleman before Week 13's Monday Night Football home game against the San Francisco 49ers.

McDermott's words were significant today. When he says it'll be "multiple weeks," he means it. Having Coleman available against the Chiefs would be significant, but Coleman healing up fully with a playoff run looming on the horizon is more important.
