Bills’ Keon Coleman sends firm message before must win Broncos matchup and embraces the moment without overcomplicating it
Keon Coleman opened up about facing the Denver Broncos ahead of divisional round.
The Buffalo Bills and wide receiver Keon Coleman have had a strained relationship over the course of the season. Coleman has been a healthy scratch on more than one occasion, with at least two disciplinary actions taken against the budding wide receiver. He’s just been unable to find the field, and when he does, at times, he’s left much to be desired.
Coming into the season, offensive lineman Dion Dawkins said the league better get ready for Coleman’s ascension, though it’s yet to be seen on any meaningful level outside of his Week 1 performance against the Baltimore Ravens.
Still, with injuries plaguing the roster, especially in the receiving room, Coleman is going to need to step up in a big way. Tyrell Shavers, Gabe Davis, and Josh Palmer are all out for the year. Coleman seems more than ready for the challenge ahead, according to Heavy Sports.
“It’s still another football game at the end of the day, no matter what title they put on it. There’s plays that have got to be made, and I’m one of the guys that can go out and make some,” Coleman said.
Next-man-up type mentality for Buffalo once again
Coleman opened up about Shavers’ injury, since the two joined the organization at the same time, it hits home to the young receiver, seeing his buddy go down with a devastating injury.
“You don’t ever want to wish that on your worst enemy. That’s just unfortunate for the type of season he’s been having, his first year on the active roster,” Coleman said. “He had a lot of things ahead of him.”
With the amount of injuries to the offense, especially considering Davis and Shavers’ roles in helping set up the run, Coleman understands that he’ll be asked to do some different things on Saturday. Once again, he seems ready for the challenge at hand.
“That’s the unique thing about our [wide receiver] room; everybody can do everything. You won’t see much slide there,” Coleman said.
For better or worse, the opportunity is here. With Buffalo running out of bodies and answers at wide receiver, the path back onto the field is wide open for Coleman. He did play against the Jaguars, but Buffalo is hoping to get more production out of him for Saturday.
Whether this moment becomes a turning point or another missed chance will be decided the only way it ever is in the NFL: when the ball is in the air and No. 0 is expected to make a play.
