Bills linked to game-changing wide receiver that is sure to make Josh Allen happy as trade deadline inches closer
A.J. Brown and Josh Allen together would be lethal on the football field.
The Buffalo Bills lost a heartbreaker to the New England Patriots in Week 5, with more than a handful of self-inflicted wounds that handed the Patriots the victory.
Quarterback Josh Allen talked about how the team needed to be better with some fiery postgame comments, and head coach Sean McDermott shared the same sentiment. You won’t win football games by turning the ball over three times with 11 penalties. The message was clear: something needs to change, whether that’s execution, discipline, or maybe even personnel.
With the season rapidly progressing and the trade deadline looming, Buffalo has been linked to a superstar on offense that would undoubtedly help the Bills. No, it’s not a safety, cornerback, or linebacker in this mock trade; instead, it’s a game-breaker on offense.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay thinks that the Bills should trade for Philadelphia Eagles’ star A.J. Brown.
Hypothetical trade has Buffalo landing A.J. Brown
The trade was part of an article about four shocking trades that would turn the NFL upside down, and Allen, given a weapon of Brown’s caliber, would surely do just that.
With Brown having a few cryptic messages and struggling early through the season, teams have reportedly called to inquire about his availability to potentially join a new club.
It’s unclear whether Philly would even want to move on from Brown, but he’s clearly been unhappy with his role, so if there was any time, it feels as though now would be the perfect opportunity.
In the trade, general manager Brandon Beane would be sending over a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 conditional third-round pick to bring the talented receiver to Buffalo. Kay explains why the move would make sense for Buffalo.
“The Buffalo Bills make for an intriguing landing spot,” Kay wrote. “They boast the same 4-1 record as Philadelphia and have an MVP quarterback in Josh Allen leading their offense, but the team still lacks a true No. 1 wideout who can take the passing game to another level.
“While slot wideout Khalil Shakir (22/235/2) and X receiver Keon Coleman (21/226/2) have played their roles adequately, tight end Dalton Kincaid leads Buffalo in receiving yardage (287) and receiving touchdowns (three),” Kay continued. “There’s clearly room for a star like Brown to come in and take over as Allen’s top target down the stretch.
“If the Bills are willing to kick over an early Day 2 pick and a conditional 2027 pick to sweeten the pot, it may just be enough to get the Eagles to consider moving on from the pass-catcher.” – Alex Kay, Bleacher Report.
A.J. Brown career stats

- 2020: 70 receptions, 1075 yards, 11 receiving touchdowns
- 2021: 63 receptions, 869 yards, five receiving touchdowns
- 2022: 88 receptions, 1496 yards, 11 receiving touchdowns
- 2023: 106 receptions, 1456 yards, seven receiving touchdowns
- 2024: 67 receptions, 1079 yards, seven receiving touchdowns
- 2025: 19 receptions, 194 yards, one receiving touchdown
Just watching some of the highlight reel tape from Brown, it would be a dream come true for Allen and the offense to get a talent like his in the unit. While everybody eats, maybe a few people could eat a little bit more if Brown landed in Buffalo.
Brown’s addition could help everyone benefit on the team, opening up space for Kincaid and Coleman underneath, while still allowing Buffalo to utilize its “everybody eats” approach.
While it would be a long shot, the idea of Brown added to the offense is enough to have Bills Mafia ready to find the nearest folding table. Beane has swung on some high-profile players if he feels they can help the team win. Stefon Diggs and Von Miller were brought to Buffalo to make a difference and were huge signings for the team. Beane isn’t opposed to a splash signing or trade.
Even as a fantasy, the idea highlights what the Bills might be missing on the offense: A tone-setting, dominant receiver who can flip the momentum when things go south. There would need to be some heavy roster maneuvering to make Brown’s contract work with the Bills, but never say never.
Safety and cornerback won’t be an issue if you can score more than 40 points a game. Beane should absolutely be at least picking up the phone to see if the Eagles are serious about shipping away Brown.
