Bills linked to star veteran wide receiver that could be the missing piece Josh Allen and the offense desperately need
This would be a huge get for Buffalo.
The Buffalo Bills need some help at wide receiver, that’s for certain.
If 2026 begins and the Bills are still trotting out players like Curtis Samuel, Josh Palmer, Keon Coleman, and others in order to compete, Bills Mafia won’t be too thrilled.
They need some drastic change in that room, and it needs to happen during the 2026 offseason.
One name that Buffalo has been linked to is that of veteran wide receiver Mike Evans. He’s played his entire career as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, having over 1,000 yards in each of his seasons outside of 2025.
He’s a reliable weapon and one that Buffalo could absolutely use. To be quite frank, there are better options available, but that’s the beauty of the offseason.
Mike Evans to the Buffalo Bills, who says no?
ESPN released an article discussing the best team fits for the top 50 players, where Evans was listed as a candidate to join Buffalo. It’s not the first time this offseason that Evans has been linked to Buffalo, and I don’t think it’ll be the last.
He’s a hot topic across NFL circles, with Buffalo seeming to be one of the premier destinations for the aging veteran.
“A return to Tampa Bay is clearly an option for Evans, but becoming the top receiver in Buffalo with quarterback Josh Allen makes a lot of sense, too. Under new coach Joe Brady, Evans could be that boundary X target for Allen and create matchups in the low red zone. I like the idea of Buffalo getting aggressive to add a proven and reliable target who had topped the 1,000-yard receiving mark in 11 straight seasons before injuries derailed his 2025 campaign.” – Matt Bowen
Getting quarterback Josh Allen any type of help will go a long way toward Buffalo’s ultimate goal of playing in February. While Evans might not be the sexiest pick, he’s an upgrade at the position regardless, and that’s what we’re looking for the team to do this offseason.
Buffalo has some moves to make before doing anything in free agency
It’s not as easy as just signing wide receiver Alec Pierce, a big-name player that some of Bills Mafia are hoping that the team will be able to haul in. Buffalo currently sits near the bottom of the league in terms of available cap space, making any kind of big swing difficult.
A few key restructures to quarterback Josh Allen and offensive tackle Dion Dawkins would go a long way toward cleaning up some cap space.
We have to be a little more realistic, and that’s why the signing of Evans makes the most sense.
He wouldn’t just be another body in the room; he’d instantly become the tone-setter. A true boundary X. A red-zone nightmare. A security blanket for Allen when things break down, and the play turns into backyard football, a scene that we’ve seen far too many times in 2025.
Under new head coach Joe Brady, this offense needs more reliability, and Evans brings exactly that. He wins at the catch point, he commands attention from safeties, and he makes life easier on the young receivers already in the building instead of asking them to carry the load.
Is he 26 years old? No. Is he still capable of changing the math for a defense every single snap? Absolutely.
The Bills don’t need a splash for headlines; they need production in January. If Buffalo is serious about finally breaking through and playing in February, adding a future Hall of Fame-caliber wideout like Evans might be the most practical and impactful move they can make right now.
