Bills lose key contributors at the worst possible time with latest update from Sean McDermott just 24 hours after win vs. Jaguars
Injuries continue to mount for Buffalo ahead of showdown against the Broncos.
The Buffalo Bills are going to be shorthanded for the upcoming showdown against the Denver Broncos. The news came quickly, before the league set the kickoff time, which will be announced after Monday Night Football concludes. Head coach Sean McDermott was speaking to the media about the extensive number of injuries Buffalo is facing, ruling out several players on Monday.
Wide receiver Gabe Davis is out for the season with a torn ACL. The veteran receiver was brought back to Buffalo earlier this season and has flashed at times with quarterback Josh Allen. “Big Game Gabe” was injured during the win against the Jaguars and needed to be carted off the field. His season is over, and Allen is down a weapon on an already thin corps at wide receiver.
Adding to the misery, McDermott provided an update on the safety Jordan Poyer. Poyer was hurt during the win against the Jaguars, unable to return to the contest. The head coach shared that he was not expecting Poyer to suit up on Saturday, as his injury is considered week-to-week.
Buffalo takes a hit on both sides of the football
Poyer has also been playing exceptionally well alongside safety Cole Bishop. Bishop has really taken the next step in his game this season, and Poyer’s ability to work with him has been a factor in his development. No Poyer on Saturday is a worrying sign for a unit that had to trot out rookie safety Jordan Hancock. While Hancock shone in the preseason, he struggled against Jacksonville.
Damar Hamlin could be an option, with his 21-day practice window being opened ahead of the Jaguars game, with McDermott sharing that they will see where things go this week regarding his availability. Getting back another body would be huge for the defense.
Allen carried the offense, and sometimes the offense quite literally carried Allen, in the victory in one of the most thrilling games of the season. Unfortunately, less than 24 hours later, that victory is overshadowed by some nasty injury news. Buffalo has plenty of question marks already leading up to a huge showdown against the Broncos, with not a lot of time to figure things out.
Of course, when you have No. 17 at quarterback, no game is out of reach, but these injuries just continue to mount at the worst possible times.
