Bills lose veteran player in unexpected fashion ahead of Week 3 showdown against the Miami Dolphins
The Buffalo Bills have seen one of their veteran players get poached from the practice squad.
The Buffalo Bills are making their final preparations for a divisional showdown against the Miami Dolphins on ‘Thursday Night Football.’ Ahead of the contest, it was announced that the Bills are expected to lose veteran guard Dan Feeney from the practice squad.
After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost their right guard, Cody Mauch, to a season-ending knee injury, the Bucs are swooping in and are expected to sign Feeney to their active roster. ESPN’s senior NFL insider, Adam Schefter, broke the news on X.
Dan Feeney’s career in the NFL
Feeney will provide some key depth as the Bucs await All-Pro left tackle Tristan Wirfs’ return, and could be without their starting right tackle, Luke Goedeke, in their Week 3 matchup as well.
Feeney was added to the Bills’ 90-man roster in August but was unable to crack the 53-man roster. He was added as a veteran to the practice squad after spending time with four different teams during his eight NFL seasons.
He’s started 65 games throughout his career while playing for the Los Angeles Chargers (57 games), New York Jets (seven games), and the Chicago Bears (one game). During his lone season playing for the Minnesota Vikings, he didn’t register a start while appearing in eight games. Feeney is enterering his ninth season in the league in 2025 and now seeks his first start since 2023.
Buffalo has depth at the position, and with Feeney’s absence, it could look to some familiar faces to fill out its practice squad. Currently, Buffalo only has one practice squad lineman in center Kendrick Green, but had previously cut both Richard Gouraige and Jacob Bayer, who could potentially rejoin the organization on the practice squad.
Buffalo Bills’ current practice squad
With Feeney’s reported departure, here’s how the current Buffalo Bills practice squad stands.
- QB Shane Buechele
- LB Jimmy Ciarlo
- OT Travis Clayton (International Pathway Program)
- RB Frank Gore Jr.
- WR Stephen Gosnell
- C Kendrick Green
- CB Dane Jackson
- LB Keonta Jenkins
- DE Andre Jones Jr.
- CB Jalen Kimber
- TE Keleki Latu
- DT Zion Logue
- DT Phidarian Mathis
- DT Jordan Phillips
- S Jordan Poyer
- WR Kristian Wilkerson
- WR Gabe Davis (Practice Squad/Injured)
This will be ever-changing, and some of these players could even get a call-up on Thursday ahead of the ‘Thursday Night Football’ showdown against the Miami Dolphins, with injuries to both Ed Oliver and Matt Milano.
As was the case with Feeney, any team is able to poach a player from the practice squad, but they must then sign that player to the active roster—and keep him for at least three weeks. Tampa Bay got a good one in Feeney, and Bills Mafia is hoping for nothing but the best for the veteran’s future in the league.
