Bills get some much-needed injury news that’ll go a long way toward regular season success
An exciting update that Bills Mafia has been waiting for.
The Buffalo Bills are battling through injury across the offense and defense heading into the matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
In the loss to the Atlanta Falcons, some big-name players, like tight end Dalton Kincaid and linebacker Matt Milano, were out, forcing Buffalo to face an uphill battle.
However, with the bye week now come and gone, the team is getting a much-needed reinforcement that’ll help boost the defensive backfield. Rookie cornerback and first-round pick Maxwell Hairston has been designated to return from injured reserve, opening up his 21-day practice window.
Buffalo could use Hairston whenever that may be
Now, it’s not to say the team will get Hairston back for their upcoming matchup against the Panthers. Realistically, the team will get him back around Week 10, but it’s a good sign for the defense to get Hairston back out and on the field.
One of the biggest issues with the defense is the cornerback position. Christian Benford and Tre’Davious White have left much to be desired in the defensive backfield, and the safety position isn’t faring much better.
Hairston will immediately provide a boost to that unit, though the Bills Mafia likely won’t see him in action for at least the next several weeks. The first-round rookie has been eager to get on the field and compete, and the fan base shares the same sentiment.
Head coach Sean McDermott said that fans need to temper their expectations when looking at Hairston, who hasn’t been on the field since before the preseason began with a non-contact knee injury suffered during practice.
Even when Hairston is back and 100 percent healthy, the team will have to ease him into life in the NFL. For now, getting Hairston back on the field is the first step in shoring up a shaky secondary that’s searching for answers.
