Multiple Bills stars hit with brutal news by the NFL on their day off from work, and it’s going to cost them big time
Not the news they were hoping to hear.
As if the loss to the Houston Texans wasn’t enough, the NFL decided to come down hard on the Buffalo Bills this weekend. While it had nothing to do with the contest in Houston, the NFL handed out fines for the Week 11 slate of games, and multiple Bills stars are in the crosshairs of the league. It just adds insult to injury after the abysmal loss on “Thursday Night Football.”
After the victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 11, running back Ty Johnson and defensive end Joey Bosa were fined by the league for actions committed in the game. For Johnson, it’s rather unfair as the normal “Key and Peele” treatment wasn’t applied here.
Johnson was fined for an “obscene” gesture after scampering his way to a 50-yard touchdown. During the last few yards of his run, he faked a hamstring injury and then lay on the ground in the end zone, offering a few hip thrusts before springing back to his feet and celebrating with his teammates.
Everyone knows the rules are two pumps only; three will get you a flag. Well, it seems like two will get you fined in this scenario. It was all in good fun, except if you ask the league.
The veteran running back will have to cough up $10,777 for the incident. As Tom Pelissero hilariously posted on X (formerly Twitter), that’s $5,388.50 per pump.
Multiple fines for Joey Bosa in 2025
As for Bosa, he finds himself once again in trouble with the NFL. During the victory, late in the fourth quarter, the Bills’ defense applied heavy pressure to quarterback Baker Mayfield. Bosa came around the edge and brought down the quarterback; it happened after the ball left Mayfield’s hands. Bosa was flagged for roughing the passer and was subsequently fined for it as well.
Bosa was fined $12,172 for fighting against the Carolina Panthers earlier in November, and now faces another $17,389 for his roughing-the-passer penalty.
While it’s only mere pennies for the massive contracts these players sign, it’s just another example of the No Fun League striking again, at least in the case of Johnson. What’s football without a few obscene gestures after a huge touchdown?
We need more of that, not less. For Johnson, the punishment doesn’t appear to match the moment, and for Bosa, it’s another example of how tight the NFL rulebook has become.
