NFL.com's Kevin Patra recently detailed the biggest remaining offseason priority for each AFC franchise.
When it comes to the Buffalo Bills, Patra thinks the team's biggest remaining priority is deciding whether or not they should keep veteran edge rusher Von Miller on the roster for the 2024 season.
Miller is an eight-time Pro Bowler, but he hasn't played more than 12 games in a season since 2019. The former Texas A&M standout turned 35 earlier this spring.
From NFL.com: Miller took a pay cut to remain in Buffalo this offseason, but even with $8.5 million guaranteed, he's no lock to make the final roster if the club doesn't see improvement from the future Hall of Famer. Things move swiftly in the NFL, and Miller hasn't earned a Pro Bowl nod since 2019. In 12 games last season, he didn't generate a sack, earned 12 pressures on 164 pass-rush snaps and had three tackles. The hope is that being further removed from his 2022 knee injury can get the edge rusher back into form, but it's no guarantee for a 35-year-old player. If Miller can't be productive in a rotational role behind Greg Rousseau and A.J. Epenesa, it could be time to move on for Buffalo.
While Miller has struggled to stay on the field in recent years, there's at least some reason for optimism entering the 2024 season.
Miller tore his ACL near the end of the 2022 season, which delayed his return to action in 2023. The former Super Bowl MVP didn't make his season-debut in 2023 until October, which meant he missed training camp and the first month of the NFL season.
If Miller is healthy, he can still provide quality production for the Bills. But if he shows during training camp that he's been significantly slowed by past injuries, he may not make Buffalo's 53-man roster.
Releasing Miller would come with a $23 million dead cap hit, so there's motivation for the Bills to keep the veteran pass rusher if he can show any semblance of being his old self.
