The Bills Mafia hopes the Buffalo Bills are buyers at the NFL trade deadline, specifically for safety and wide receiver.

The latest report from senior NFL insider Dianna Russini claims the Bills are actively in the market for both positions, giving fans exactly what they’ve been asking for.

Russini didn’t provide exact details on specific players the team could be looking at; she just mentioned that “The Bills are looking for help at safety and wide receiver.”

With the trade deadline approaching, several names across the league have started to surface as potential fits for Buffalo. From blockbuster wideouts to defensive playmakers, here are some of the biggest names that could help the Bills make a splash.

A.J. Brown to Buffalo floated by Bleacher Report

There have been a handful of players across the league that teams have been calling on, something that we’ve been documenting as the trade deadline rapidly approaches. One of the biggest targets, and one of the most unbelievable to land, is that of receiver A.J. Brown. Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay highlighted some trades that would shake up the NFL, with Buffalo landing Brown.

With Brown having a few cryptic messages and struggling early through the season, teams have reportedly called to inquire about his availability to potentially join a new club.

It’s unclear whether Philly would even want to move on from Brown, but he’s clearly been unhappy with his role, so if there was any time, it feels as though now would be the perfect opportunity.

In the trade, general manager Brandon Beane would be sending over a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 conditional third-round pick to bring the talented receiver to Buffalo.

Defensive superstar could be available

While the Bills have a handful of issues on offense, it’s the defense that could really use a boost. The team is getting back edge Michael Hoecht and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, but is now without one of the starting safeties in Taylor Rapp. Not only that, but fellow safety Damar Hamlin is also on the injured reserve, leaving Buffalo shorthanded at the safety position.

It’s looking like veteran safety Jordan Poyer will get some increased reps in Rapp’s absence, but it’s an area that the team could bolster via the trade deadline. Getting a difference-maker in the defensive backfield would go a long way toward correcting some of the unit’s issues.

Perhaps the flashiest name that comes to mind is that of Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker, who was a second-team All-Pro selection in 2024 while playing on a 2-5 team in last place in the NFC West. While Baker signed a massive contract in 2025, he could be a rebuild casualty.

Buffalo doesn’t have too much cap space to work with, sitting at just $2.5 million, so things would be interesting, seeing as though Baker is owed more than $19 million in 2026, but never say never.

Brandon Beane could make a swing for Chris Olave

Another potential big swing for the receiver room that Bills Mafia has been pounding the table for is New Orleans Saints receiver Chris Olave, and even Rashid Shaheed. We previously broke down what those trades would look like and how Buffalo could potentially land one or both.

Olave would slot seamlessly into the Bills’ offense, giving Josh Allen another consistent, high-end target. The former first-round pick already owns a pair of 1,000-yard seasons and has posted 33 receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns through seven games.

If Olave isn’t available, Shaheed could be another option Buffalo explores. Both receivers are due for contract extensions after the season, potentially opening the door for a trade if the Saints look to move either player before committing to big new deals. Shaheed, in particular, will become a free agent once the year wraps up.

A possible trade package for Olave could include a second and fifth-round pick along with Curtis Samuel, while Shaheed might be attainable for Samuel and a sixth-rounder.

Should Buffalo land Olave, the team would take on roughly $1.6 million in salary cap space for 2025, plus his guaranteed $15.4 million fifth-year option in 2026. Shaheed’s remaining salary would be around $2 million, and he’s under contract through 2025 before hitting free agency.

Olave is a long shot, as it’s since been reported that the Saints have no desire to ship him out of New Orleans, barring an unforeseen change.

Justin Reid to Buffalo would be fun

Baker has elite upside, but the team could make a swing by trading for New Orleans Saints’ Justin Reid. Reid has done plenty of damage against the Bills during his tenure with the Kansas City Chiefs.

With the Saints in a near-rebuild and rumors of top players being available, Beane could make a splash by bringing in Reid.

While he signed a three-year contract worth over $31 million with the Saints in March, it would allow Buffalo to keep him not only as a one-year rental, but also have him for the next couple of seasons.

An all-too familiar face tied to Buffalo

One of the last big names out there is that of Las Vegas Raiders Jakobi Meyers. Meyers, who previously spent time with the New England Patriots, has made it clear that he wants to be traded. The big-bodied pass-catcher would immediately fill a need on the roster, though his name isn’t as splashy as some of the others mentioned throughout the weeks.

Jared Dubin from CBS Sports broke down why Meyers makes sense for Buffalo to be a landing spot.

“The Bills feel like they are right now a year behind the cycle that the Kansas City Chiefs went through with their wide receivers. For the first couple of years after Tyreek Hill left, the Chiefs felt like they were fine cobbling things together. But then last year, they felt like they had to make a trade for DeAndre Hopkins when things weren’t going all that well.

“The Bills without Diggs were just fine last year. And really, they have been mostly fine this year. But you can always get more dangerous. And Meyers would certainly add some juice to a wide receiver corps that currently consists of Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Josh Palmer, Elijah Moore, Curtis Samuel, and Tyrell Shavers.

“Meyers has been known as a slot guy for much of his career, but these last two years, he’s actually spent some more time playing on the perimeter. He and Shakir would be able to coexist in the offense, complementing each other’s skill sets.” – Jared Dubin

Jags receiver might be available for Buffalo

Offense is just more fun, and one big name might be available for the Buffalo Bills. It came around the same time as Russini’s report, with Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. seemingly up for grabs for the right price.

Thomas’ addition would cost a cap hit of $533,000 in 2025 and just over $2 million in 2026.

The 2024 first-round pick might be finding a new home once the trade deadline approaches, and is yet another player Beane should be calling to see what it would take to bring him to Buffalo.

Whether or not Beane pulls the trigger, it’s clear Buffalo isn’t standing still. The Bills know their window is open, and any move, big or small, could make all the difference when January football rolls around.
