Since the Buffalo Bills are picking 30th in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, it's almost impossible to know who they will pick. However, insiders seem to have a clear consensus.
Most mock drafts have general manager Brandon Beane picking a defensive player, which fits the team's top needs very well. Cornerback, edge rusher and interior defensive lineman probably rank Top 3 among the team's weak spots going into next season.
Fortunately for them, there should be some solid choices at the end of the first round. But what if they pull off a shocker and take a LB instead? NFL insider Adam Schefter from ESPN thinks it's a possibility.
In his latest draft buzz article, Schefter listed UCLA's Carson Schwesinger as a player that could be drafted higher than people think. He added he could be a first-round pick and explicitly pointed toward the Bills as one of two named landing spots:
UCLA linebacker Carson Schwesinger, projected by many as a Day 2 pick, has a chance to go in the end of Round 1 to a team such as the Commanders (No. 29) or Bills (No. 30) that might be be looking for additional defensive help.
A four-down linebacker prospect, Schwesinger has been on a steady rise since the college football season ended.
"No linebacker prospect had been rising faster than Carson Schwesinger since about the midpoint of last season," A to Z Sports' college football managing editor Travis May wrote after the NFL Scouting Combine. "He racked up over 130 tackles for UCLA last year and showcased far more impressive balance to his game than in prior years. After coming in over 240 pounds and leaping nearly 40 inches in the vertical jump, Schwesinger should be the clear cut LB3 or LB4 in the class."
Does Carson Schwesinger make sense for the Bills?
With Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard still on the roster, it might not be the Bills' most urgent need but if they're wiped out, the pick would make sense if they like the player.
Milano is hitting free agency next year and he will be 32 years old by then. A long-term plan at the important position could be the way to go at 30th overall considering Sean McDermott is a defensive coach. Additionally, Milano has missed 25 games in the last two years.
With all that in mind, though a first-round pick could be initially perceived as too rich for Schwesinger, he absolutely makes sense at 30th. And hey, the UCLA LB is 38th on Dane Brugler's board, so it's not like they'd be reaching.
