The Buffalo Bills are coming off a thrilling victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was a must-win type of game for Buffalo, which is hoping to keep its playoff hopes alive through a crucial stretch of the season.
What makes the victory even that much more impressive is when you look at how undermanned the Bills were. Buffalo was without both starting offensive tackles, one of its starting linebackers, its top tight end, Dalton Kincaid, and wide receiver Josh Palmer.
The latest update from head coach Sean McDermott is a worrying one, though, in that kicker Tyler Bass is now gone for the season after requiring surgery. The team had brought in kicker Matt Prater early in the season ahead of the Week 1 contest against the Ravens, as Bass had been dealing with an injury stemming from training camp and the preseason.
Bass has shattered records since arriving in Buffalo, including the longest field goal, the most field goals attempted in a game, the most field goals made in a game (in a tie with Steve Christie), and the most points scored in a single season during his rookie campaign.
McDermott provides update on slew of players
With so many names appearing on the injury report ahead of the Week 13 contest, McDermott provided a crucial update on a handful of players and their availability leading up to the Cincinnati Bengals matchup in Week 14.
Defensive end Joey Bosa is dealing with a hamstring injury, to which McDermott said, “We’ll see where that goes.”
Bosa had a strip sack on quarterback Aaron Rodgers to open the second half against the Steelers and has been a massive pickup for the Bills from this past offseason. Keeping him healthy and getting him on the field will be of the utmost importance.
As for the rest of the banged-up guys, McDermott said that Bernard, Brown, Kincaid, and Palmer are all improving and that he would see where that leads him this week in practice. Wrapping up the injuries was Dion Dawkins, who remains in concussion protocol.
It wasn’t great news coming out of One Bills Drive ahead of another must-win matchup as the team fights to keep their playoff hopes alive late into the season. All that’s left to do is wait and see how the rest of the team progresses through injury ahead of the Sunday matchup.
