Bills’ Sean McDermott provides critical injury update on Josh Allen with Week 18 showdown against the Jets looming
The Josh Allen update fans have been waiting for.
Anytime your franchise quarterback needs X-rays, it gives fans cause for concern, and rightfully so.
Quarterback Josh Allen has been banged up this season, getting sacked for a career high 40 times. In the loss against the Philadelphia Eagles alone, Allen was sacked five times. Leading up to the matchup, Allen was hurt in the win against the Cleveland Browns and appeared to reaggravate that injury during a nasty hit in the loss against Philadelphia.
Josh Allen injury update from head coach Sean McDermott
The reigning MVP needed to get X-rays after the loss, ultimately coming back negative and allowing the fan base to breathe easy. On Monday, head coach Sean McDermott provided a critical update on the superstar quarterback, once again giving fans some much-needed good news.
“He’s dealing with some soreness,” McDermott said. “He looks kind of like last week a little bit, but maybe in a slightly better spot than early part of last week, like he was.”
McDermott also added that the team is taking things “one day at a time.”
Josh Allen’s historic streak at risk
Fortunately, it won’t matter much in the season finale. Allen will most likely take a snap or two to keep his active start streak alive, but the team will most likely be resting a handful of key starters to prepare for the playoffs. There just isn’t enough to play for and to risk in a meaningless game. That’s not to say that Allen doesn’t have some personal history to play for.
His unprecedented streak of 40 or more touchdowns is at risk, as the quarterback is just one touchdown away from achieving the feat. Allen has long since said that individual accolades don’t matter to him.
“I’m just trying to do my job, just trying to find a way to get in the playoffs here,” Allen said.
A farewell to Highmark Stadium
With Buffalo most likely securing the seven seed, Sunday will be the final game at Highmark Stadium. While the game might not matter with Buffalo resting its starters, the return of the red helmets and a fitting farewell to a beloved stadium are enough to excite fans.
At the end of the day, the focus is clear: get Allen healthy for January. Whether he throws that touchdown or simply takes a ceremonial snap, Buffalo’s real goal is looming just ahead.
Sunday is less about the standings and more about preservation, a final bow at Highmark before the real fight begins, with Bills Mafia hoping the next snaps that truly matter come deep in the postseason.
