Sean McDermott reveals plans for starters in first preseason game
Sean McDermott told reporters that Allen and the rest of the starters will play on Saturday, which is an important development for many position groups on the roster. One in particular, though, is the offensive line, and especially the chemistry between new center Connor McGovern and Allen on the snap.
When asked about the chemistry with McGovern, Allen said:
"I think it's been good. Obviously the rapport that I had with Mitch [Morse] the last few years doesn't go unnoticed, and there's going to be a point where something comes up that hasn't come up yet that Connor and I will have to talk about, but we're doing a good job of talking, and he's coming to me and asking questions, and I'm doing the same, just making sure that we're on the same page at all times with the protections and the run game and the Mike points, things of that nature. But again, I think it's in a good spot, and we're going to get better as we go."
Allen and McGovern obviously already have chemistry, with McGovern transitioning from guard to center. However, the snap between center and quarterback is crucial, and has been a bit of a work in progress throughout camp, with multiple fumbles being noted.

The exchange between center and quarterback needs to get right before the regular season starts. McGovern seeing live reps against a very good Chicago Bears defensive front will be the first test to see where the rapport between he and Allen stands.
McGovern took a step forward last year as a guard, and is excited about the move to center, which he said earlier this offseason was his natural position.
In 2017, as a sophomore in college, McGovern was the starting center for a Penn State offense that featured Saquon Barkley in the backfield. In that season, McGovern didn't allow a sack or a hurry.
It's been a long time since McGovern has been a starting center. Eyes will be glued to the communication and the snap between he and Allen on Saturday.
