The Buffalo Bills and Sean McDermott were able to accomplish something that young Bills' fans never thought was possible.
Specifically, McDermott passed Marv Levy with the highest winning percentage by a coach in Bills' history.
McDermott surpassed the legendary coach after the Bills' dominant 38-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
During the post-game speech, McDermott was awarded a game ball from Stefon Diggs.
While a loss next week could push McDermott below the threshold, it's a monumental accomplishment.
Mary Levy is beloved in Buffalo, and rightfully so.
Levy led the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances and was a staple in the community for several decades.
Rightfully so, fans still show their love to the legendary coach whenever possible.
Marv Levy finished his career with the Bills totaling 112 wins and 70 losses in the regular season with 11 wins and eight losses in the postseason.
The McDermott effect
Sean McDermott has completely shifted the culture and play of Bills football since his arrival. It didn't take long for the fans of a beloved franchise to realize they had something special in the defensive-minded coach.
With Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott leading the way for the next several years, they are sure to break more records with each passing year.
Let's be honest, when you have Josh Allen it's pretty normal to break records.
Having Josh Allen makes things a lot easier
McDermott has had a lot of success from the drafting of Josh Allen. Allen was able to outsmart all regular humans and the entirety of math itself.
With a young career marred by a lack of opportunities, Allen had to claw his way to a D1 scholarship and again at the professional level.
Now, in year five, Josh Allen has ascended into an MVP-caliber quarterback. Some would argue that he might be the best player in the NFL currently.
Drafting and developing
Aside from Josh Allen, McDermott and Beane have had successful drafts over the years.
They find a large amount of success by leaning on their scouting department and really hitting on their draft choices.
Some of their most successful acquisitions would be Tremaine Edmunds, Ed Oliver, Josh Allen, Gabe Davis, Tre White and countless others.
Speficially, Sunday was a perfect example of the impact the drafted rookies can have on this team.
Furthermore, their ability to develop and craft some of these projects into stars is something that cannot be overstated.
Knox, Rousseau and Allen were all considered projects coming into the professional level and they have absolutely shined so far in their young careers.
When it's all said and done…
Jim Kelly and Marv Levy were able to go to four straight Super Bowls, a feat that has not since been repeated.
Ultimately, a Super Bowl will be the one thing that would cement the legacy of Sean McDermott, Brandon Beane and Josh Allen.
It would immediately launch them into the number one position for head coach, general manager, and quarterback in Bills history.
The Buffalo Bills are red-hot right now with a huge matchup against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ultimately, this matchup could set the stage for the number one seed in the AFC.
Sean McDermott has helped put the Bills in a position to succeed.
Thank you, Sean McDermott. (and Josh Allen).
