Sean McDermott drops revealing detail that adds new context to Josh Allen’s growing impact for the Bills
Sean McDermott put everything into perspective just moments after the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Buffalo Bills walked into Jacksonville and pulled off their first road playoff win since 1992. It was a group effort, with the defense showing up in some big moments and, of course, quarterback Josh Allen once again putting on his Superman cape and willing his team to victory.
It’s not the first, and will not be the last, time that Allen takes a game over singlehandedly in the postseason. It’s something that he’s repeatedly done throughout his career, despite some lazy narratives from some national media talking heads about what they perceive Allen to be.
Head coach Sean McDermott was thrilled with the performance from the reigning MVP, and it’s something that permeates the locker room. One simple quote from McDermott perfectly captures Allen’s ferociousness and how it bleeds through with everything the team does.
“When your quarterback is that type of warrior, that type of competitor [ . . . ] it goes through the whole team,” McDermott said.
Josh Allen put on a show against the Jaguars
Leading up to the matchup, there were conversations about how there were “no excuses” for Allen and the Bills because the Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, and Cincinnati Bengals weren’t in the postseason. It was beyond lame, but Allen and company must have heard the noise.
It was one of those games that absolutely silenced critics, and with his performance, Allen is continuing to ascend to one of the very best postseason quarterbacks of all time. Before kickoff on Sunday, Allen was first in total yards per game in the postseason (311), first in rushing yards for QBs (668), and first in touchdown-to-interception ratio (6.25). Allen built on those numbers with his performance.
Allen finished the game going 28-for-35 with 273 yards and a touchdown while adding 11 carries for 33 yards and two touchdowns. When No. 17 is on the field in the playoffs, magic happens. Even when some scary injuries occurred. Allen repeatedly hopped back on the field for some “wow” moments on more than one occasion.
At some point, the conversation has to change. Allen isn’t just winning playoff games; he’s defining them, and the rest of the league is once again being forced to keep up. Bills Mafia has seen this movie before, and it never gets old.
When the moment demands a hero in January, Allen keeps answering the call.
