Stephen A. Smith on Stefon Diggs controversy

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and ESPN's Stephen A. Smith each have a different take on the Stefon Diggs controversy.

Appearing on Bussin' with the Boys, Allen spoke about his relationship with Stefon Diggs amidst the controversy surrounding the Bills receiver.

"The media has blown this so far out of proportion," Allen said. "Coach asked him to go home, we were in talks and discussions of trying to resolve some things. It wasn't anything major. Media just blew it up, they're still talking about it… There's no reason to continue talking about it. He was on the field with us the next day, it was not a big deal."

However, Smith sees the situation differently, believing that the situation is "not overblown."

"You can't create noise and then complain about people hearing and noticing the noise. It's self inflicted," Smith said on Thursday's episode of First Take. "The noise was created by y'all. And so when you take that into consideration, you can't turn around now and blame everybody else overblowing something that you blew up to begin with."

So let's see how all of this began.

The Bills suffered a devastating loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs. During the game, Diggs appeared very upset with Allen, talking to him with his hands up on the sidelines, clearly frustrated with how the game was going.

And following the game, Diggs left the locker room very quickly after the conclusion of the game.

Despite his emotional response, Smith says that he can't blame the 29-year-old receiver.

"Stefon Diggs, you departed from the (divisional round) game very, very frustrated. Your frustration was justified," Smith said. "Stefon Diggs was frustrated because all year long you play a certain way, and any of us would be frustrated by this… When you build this level of faith where you're reliant on each other to get it done and then the big moment comes and you don't show up, that's incredibly, incredibly frustrating."

However, this didn't just blow over and instead seemed to carry into mandatory minicamp.

The All-Pro receiver decided not to attend and when asked about this, head coach Sean McDermott said he was "very concerned."

However, Allen followed up McDermott's comments, saying that it was not football related and instead showed his support for Diggs.

So, while Allen is claiming that "media has blown this so far out of proportion," the tensions were clear.

"This wasn't some 'sources said.' This was them. Stefon Diggs, I mean, you saw him on the sidelines. He walked out of press. I mean Josh Allen addressed it month later. It was real," Smith said.

However, regardless of all the drama, Diggs isn't going anywhere and Allen is on his side.
