A superstar talent just became available, and Brandon Beane should be pushing hard to bring him to Buffalo
The Buffalo Bills and general manager Brandon Beane should be doing everything they can to bring in superstar defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. There’s always money in the banana stand.
The Buffalo Bills desperately need some help at the defensive tackle position, and a player just became available who could turn everything around. General manager Brandon Beane should be doing everything in his power to bring him to Buffalo.
There were shockwaves sent across the NFL after it was reported that All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence was requesting a trade from the New York Giants.
Adam Schefter broke the news that Lawrence would not be participating in the team’s offseason workout program, instead wanting out of New Jersey. As a reminder, Buffalo is the only true New York team. There are plenty of teams that immediately took notice.
Buffalo was listed among several teams interested in Lawrence’s services, and it’s not hard to see why. Defensive tackle is a huge area of need for Buffalo, and one of the best in the entire game just became available to them.
A to Z Sports mock trade has Buffalo landing Dexter Lawrence, but it’ll cost them
A to Z Sports’ Mauricio Rodriguez and several other writers put together an article discussing several mock trades for Lawrence, and Buffalo wound up winning out. Buffalo gave up a 2026 first-round pick and wide receiver Keon Coleman, and the Giants accepted.
A first-round pick is a lot to chew on, but if Buffalo was planning to take a defensive tackle at that pick anyway, why not get a sure thing with Lawrence?
Most likely, it would take more than that for the Giants to be open to trading him, but one can dream, right? New head coach Joe Brady has expressed that Coleman is a big part of the team moving forward, but if the right player is available, you’d have to imagine he’s expendable.
Instead of trading a player like defensive tackle Ed Oliver, we sweetened the pot by adding Coleman to the deal, and it worked.
Buffalo would have to navigate the current cap situation to make the deal work
There’s always money in the banana stand, but Lawrence would require some salary cap maneuvering if he were to join the Bills. Buffalo would need to create around $6 million in cap space to acquire Lawrence’s 2026 salary of $18.5 million before restructuring.
Fortunately, Buffalo could free up that cash in one move. Offensive lineman Dion Dawkins hasn’t been restructured this offseason, and that move alone would free up $11.3 million in available cap space.
So in theory, Buffalo could trade for and navigate the tight cap situation to acquire Lawrence. It’s just how much Beane is willing to give up to make that happen.
Lawrence is a difference-maker on defense and would immediately raise the ceiling of that entire room and give Buffalo exactly what they need ahead of the NFL Draft.
Dexter Lawrence could help fix a major team issue if he joined Buffalo
Buffalo allowed 136.2 yards per game with 24 rushing touchdowns allowed, which were 28th and 19th in the league, respectively, according to Polymarket Football. Buffalo needs help in the interior of the defensive line, and Lawrence thrives at that position. He’s an elite game wrecker who could change the entire fabric of the defense.
Go all in, get the defensive superstar, and put all the chips in the middle of the table.
And if there was ever a time to swing big, this is it.
The Bills are staring at a Super Bowl window with the best quarterback on the planet, a new head coach looking to make an immediate statement, and a fan base that’s starving for that final step. Opportunities to land a player like Lawrence don’t come around often. When they do, you don’t hesitate.
Draft picks are valuable, but proven dominance is priceless.
If Beane truly believes this team is just a few pieces away, then this is the kind of move that defines legacies. One that turns a contender into a champion and makes the rest of the league wish Buffalo stayed patient instead.
