Ahead of the Buffalo Bills’ practice on Thursday, head coach Sean McDermott gave a worrying injury update on first-round pick cornerback Maxwell Hairston. McDermott didn’t open the 21-day practice window and left it in doubt as to when Hairston would even be able to get back on the field.

That wasn’t the only surprise McDermott had up his sleeve. When the injury report was finally released, a surprising addition was made that wasn’t part of McDermott’s pre-practice update. Tight end Dalton Kincaid was limited in practice while dealing with an oblique injury.

It’s not just that; a handful of other players were limited who were not mentioned by McDermott in both safeties Taylor Rapp (nose) and Damar Hamlin (pectoral). The Bills face the Atlanta Falcons on Monday.

A lot of names on both sides of the football

Buffalo needs to get healthy, and quick, and while there were positive updates for players like defensive tackle Ed Oliver, who has been sidelined since Week 1 against the Ravens, it’s a mixed bag in terms of the injury report.

Having several difference-makers on both sides of the football being limited gives the fan base cause for concern heading into Week 6. Any time you see offensive lineman Dion Dawkins or any of the protectors for quarterback Josh Allen pop up on the report, it’s a little worrying.

Kincaid wasn’t the only weapon limited for Allen, as receiver Curtis Samuel popped up on the injury report with neck and rib injuries. For Samuel, he’s been battling through injury since his arrival in Buffalo and is a name to keep an eye out for as the week progresses. Luckily, Buffalo has a host of wide receivers available if he were unable to get healthy enough for the upcoming matchup.

There’s still plenty of time to right the ship, but there are way too many names popping up on the injury report for Bills Mafia’s liking.
