Buffalo Bills WR Gabe Davis is looking to take yet another important step in his development this upcoming season. Last year, while dealing with a nagging ankle injury, Davis wasn't at 100% for the entire season.
However, coming into this year, Davis put to rest any notion that his ankle is still bothering him and has been absolutely lighting it up in camp. One simple highlight video, where he makes the defender look absolutely silly, has us once again pounding the table for the organization to extend this man.
Last season, despite his injuries, Davis was responsible for some of the league's best plays. Specifically, Davis hauled in a 98-yard touchdown against the Steelers.
In the same game, Davis went big man on the defender, ripping the ball away for yet another impressive touchdown.
Before last season, there were sky-high expectations for Davis who literally made history in the NFL playoffs by going nuclear with eight catches for 201 yards and four touchdowns, setting an NFL playoff receiving touchdown record. (shudders in 13 seconds)
Throughout his short NFL career, Davis has amassed 118 receptions for 1984 yards and 20 touchdowns in the regular season to go along with 22 catches for 474 yards and six touchdowns in the postseason.
Buffalo has their one-two punch in Davis and Stefon Diggs and now is the perfect time to offer an extension to the talented wide receiver before he breaks out for a monster campaign.
This is rather a divisive point across the Bills Mafia and the national media. As Davis had a "down season" which resulted in the national media speculating a trade could be on the way if Davis doesn't ball out this season. There are some in the fanbase who don't view Davis as a true number two and think the team could and should move away from the talented young receiver.
Buffalo could make the biggest splash by not bringing in a single player in extending Davis. It'll be a tougher hill to climb if they wait until after the season, if he explodes, to try and retain him for top dollar.
It's a risk, but a risk we are happily willing to take. The sky is the limit for Davis and the Bills front office should be doing everything it can to keep the potential superstar in Buffalo for years to come.
The salary cap isn't real, there's always money in the banana stand. Pull off some extensions and keep some of Josh Allen's best weapons in Buffalo.
Gabe Davis lands on impressive list as Bills look at life without DeAndre Hopkins
The Buffalo Bills general manager has been a crucial part of the team’s success since joining the organization. His decision to not bring in DeAndre Hopkins may be one of his best choices yet.
