The Buffalo Bills are set to face off against the New Orleans Saints in Week 4 of the NFL season. After Buffalo came away with a victory on “Thursday Night Football” against the Miami Dolphins, the team is hoping to stay undefeated on the season.

While Buffalo has the reigning MVP in Josh Allen and a running back in James Cook, who looks even better than in 2024, Buffalo has yet another advantage in the game that could prove to be the difference-maker: Travel.

New Orleans is coming off two home games before it traveled to Seattle for the Seahawks game, then back to New Orleans, then to Buffalo for the upcoming Sunday matchup. For the Bills, they’ve stayed put in Western New York since the victory over the Dolphins with nine days of rest.

New Orleans hasn’t won a game and is walking into a buzzsaw in Orchard Park, New York. The Saints’ last game was a 44-13 blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks, during which the team couldn’t get anything going. On the season, the Saints are only averaging 15.7 points per game, while Buffalo has scored 30+ in all of its contests so far.

Bills get a win against the Saints ahead of their matchup

Essentially, Buffalo got an extra mini-bye after the Thursday game, giving them time to rest and prepare more than the Saints. While these are professional athletes who have more than enough experience traveling, it’s still an important factor to consider.

Sports Illustrated reported that the Saints will have traveled over 3,000 miles to get to Highmark Stadium.

Fast facts about Josh Allen’s career vs. the New Orleans Saints

  • Josh Allen is 1-0 against the Saints in his career
  • Allen went 23-for-28 with 260 yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions
  • Josh Allen has a 4-1 record against the NFC South in his career

Outside of the travel, the teams are playing on completely different levels through the early stages of the 2025 season, with Buffalo looking like a top contender.

Buffalo is the only team in NFL history to be 3-0 with more than 100 points scored, zero turnovers, under 15 penalties, more than 150 rushing yards per game, and more than 250 net passing yards per game.

Even if the Saints had to walk next door to Orchard Park and not travel thousands of miles, it’s a big undertaking for New Orleans to come to Western New York hoping for a victory.

The extra rest and lack of travel will by no means guarantee a win, but when combined with the team’s hot start, it’s another edge tilting in the Bills’ favor. For the Saints, it’s an uphill battle before the opening kickoff even takes place.
