Vikings star Justin Jefferson sparks Bills speculation as trade rumors begin to accelerate early in the 2026 offseason
Justin Jefferson is turning heads with his latest comments.
The Buffalo Bills are in the market for a true wide receiver No. 1, and a name that’s going around is that of Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson. Buffalo currently has negative cap space, and making a trade for Jefferson would be astronomical, but that’s what the offseason is all about.
Could you imagine quarterback Josh Allen paired with Jefferson and what the offense would look like? Talk about unstoppable.
Well, the topic of Bills Mafia was brought up to the talented pass catcher during a recent appearance on the “Up & Adams Show” with Kay Adams, and Jefferson had a special message for the beloved fan base. Don’t get your tables out yet, Bills Mafia.
“I’ve been hearing a couple (Bills) Mafia fans talking a little bit here and there, but I’m a Viking, so [ . . . ] Minnesota is a lot more colder. I’m going to say I’ll keep it cold in Minnesota,” Jefferson said.
Jefferson is hearing the noise, and it’s important to note that during the entire interaction, Jefferson was smiling from ear to ear. Maybe he was just thinking what it would look like to have a quarterback who would actually throw him the football.
It wouldn’t be totally out of the realm of possibility for Jefferson to join Buffalo, with ties to new head coach Joe Brady dating back to his days with the LSU Tigers.
However, outside of the cap space needed to take on his massive contract, Buffalo would also have to give a king’s ransom to get Jefferson to Buffalo. Minnesota would have to agree to the deal, which would most likely have to be at least two first-round picks, a second, and maybe even a player. Still, at that point, Minnesota might still say no.
Justin Jefferson has a lot of love for the Bills new head coach, Joe Brady
While speaking with USA Today in late January, Jefferson opened up about the Bills picking Brady as the team’s new head coach. Needless to say, Jefferson had a lot of respect for his former coach.
Brady and Jefferson worked closely together in the 2019 season when Brady joined head coach Ed Orgeron and the LSU Tigers as the team’s passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. During his lone season, LSU won the National Championship, Joe Burrow won the Heisman, and Brady was honored with the 24th annual Broyles Award, which is given to the top assistant.
On top of all of his awards and accolades, perhaps one of the biggest successes was how he was able to help mold and craft Jefferson’s game, allowing him to ascend to an entirely different level, resulting in him being a first-round selection in the draft. The rest, as they say, is history.
“I mean, he’s already been doing a phenomenal job behind the scenes,” Jefferson said. “Of course, the TV crew showing him in the box calling the plays and stuff, but he’s a great guy, he’s a great coach. Having him as my offensive coordinator my 2019 year, we had so much fun together just building and working on our craft. I feel like he was mostly the reason why I got picked first round, he’s the reason why my hands got better, why a lot of things occurred during that season. I’m just proud of him to go from the Saints to LSU, and now he’s back in the league, now he’s about to be a head coach. It’s a blessing, it’s honestly crazy to see the change over the past six years. I’m happy for him, I’m happy to see the different things he do, especially of course with Josh Allen at quarterback. I’m excited to see how he carries that team and how he controls that team.”
Jefferson made it clear where he stands right now: he’s a Viking, and he’s comfortable keeping it cold in Minnesota. But the fact that he’s hearing the noise, smiling through it, and openly gushing about Joe Brady while name-dropping Josh Allen is exactly how offseason dreams are born.
For now, it’s just talk. Still, if Brady keeps building something special in Buffalo and the Bills ever find a way to make the math work, this is one storyline Bills Mafia won’t be able to stop circling back to.
Sometimes the seeds are planted long before the move ever feels real. For now, we’ll just dream.
